Add an App

Add an app that isn't in your project or Space yet, from the Content Library

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Add apps to extend and customize what your project or Space can do, like pulling in market comps, searching parcels, or running feasibility checks. This article covers adding an app that isn't in your project or Space yet. Once you add an app, it's available to everyone who works there.

Looking for an app that's already in your project? You don't need to add it again. Open it in your layout instead. See Find an App in Your Layout.

Built-in apps

Built-in Giraffe apps, like Layers, Properties, and Analytics, are always available and don't appear in the Content Library. Add them to a panel from the panel's + (Add tab) button.

Add an app from the Apps menu

  1. In the top menu bar, click Apps.

  2. Click Add App at the bottom of the menu.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: The Apps menu open, with the Add App button highlighted. Replace this block with the image.

  3. Choose All Apps, Public Apps, or Workspace Apps to narrow the list. Type in Search apps... to search by name.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: The Add App window with the All Apps, Public Apps, and Workspace Apps tabs and the search box. Replace this block with the image.

  4. Click Get on the app.

Giraffe adds the app to your project and opens it as a new tab in your layout. If the app is already in the project, the button reads Open. Click it to open the app in your layout, even if it isn't in any of your panels yet.

Add an app from a panel

Add an app straight into the panel where you want it to open.

  1. Click the + (Add tab) button at the end of a panel's tab bar.

  2. Click Add App at the bottom of the list.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: The Add tab list open, with the Add App button highlighted. Replace this block with the image.

  3. Choose All Apps, Public Apps, or Workspace Apps, or type in Search apps..., and click Get on the app.

Giraffe adds the app to your project and opens it as a new tab in that panel. The rest of the + list is covered in adding an app to a panel.

Add an app from the Content Library

  1. Open the Content Library. Search the command bar for Open Content Library, or choose Apps > Data > Content Library from the top menu bar.

  2. Click Workspace to see apps your workspace owns, or Marketplace to see public apps.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: The Content Library with the Workspace and Marketplace tabs highlighted. Replace this block with the image.

  3. Under Content Type, click Apps.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: The Content Type list with Apps selected. Replace this block with the image.

  4. Find the app. Type in Search for content to search by name.

  5. Click Get on the app.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: An app tile with the Get button highlighted. Replace this block with the image.

Giraffe adds the app to your project and opens it as a new tab in your layout. If the app is already in the project, the button reads Open. Click it to open the app in your layout, even if it isn't in any of your panels yet.

Some apps work only in projects, and some work only in Spaces. The Content Library shows the apps that fit where you are.

Add an app from a content pack

Some apps come inside a content pack. Adding one of these apps imports the whole pack.

  1. Click the app's tile to open its details.

  2. Click Import. You can also click Get right on the tile to do the same thing.

📷 Screenshot placeholder: An app's detail view with the Import button highlighted. Replace this block with the image.

Giraffe imports the pack's contents, then opens the app as a new tab in your layout.

An app that's in the project and not in a panel

An app can be in your project without showing in any panel. You don't need to add it again. See Find an App in Your Layout to open it.

Locked apps

An app marked Locked isn't included in your plan. Hover the Locked button to see Upgrade to access this content.

Third-party apps

When you add an app that's hosted outside Giraffe, Giraffe shows this warning: Warning: this app is third-party software and may not be secure. Make sure you trust the authors. The warning appears the first time the app is added to a project.

A third-party app can come from several places. Your own internal team may have built it for your workspace. Another provider, like a data vendor or a software partner, may have built it and shared it on the Marketplace. Make sure you know where the app came from and trust its authors before you use it.
