Set up a project to match the market you're working in. The Setup tab controls whether you see meters or feet, which currency your costs show in, and the area terms your reports use, so the numbers read the way your local planners, lenders, and investors expect.
Open the Setup tab
Change a setting
Click the pencil icon, Edit property, next to the setting.
Type or choose the new value.
Click Save, or press
Enter. PressEscor click away to cancel.
Edit one setting at a time. Save or cancel the one you're editing before you open another.
Everyone who works in the project sees the same Setup values. If you only have view access, the pencil icons are hidden.
Units
Units sets whether the project shows lengths, areas, and volumes in Meters or Feet. New projects use meters.
Switch to Feet for a site where planning controls, comps, and pro formas are in square feet, like most of the US. Switch to Meters for metric markets.
Changing units only changes how numbers are shown. Giraffe converts every existing geometry, property, and analytics value for display. Nothing in the project is redrawn or lost, and you can switch back any time.
Units carry through to Analytics, Urban, and CSV exports.
Units also change the default area acronyms. In feet, saleable area shows as NRA and floor space ratio shows as FAR, unless you've set your own acronyms.
Currency symbol
Currency symbol is the symbol Giraffe shows on cost values in Analytics and exports. The default is $. Change it to match the currency of the deal, like £, €, or A$.
The symbol is a label only. Giraffe doesn't convert values between currencies.
Area acronyms
Area acronyms are the short names Giraffe uses for each kind of building area. Change them to the terms your market, council, or investment committee uses. They only change labels. The areas are calculated the same way.
Gross area acronym: total building area. Default GBA.
Net area acronym: gross area multiplied by efficiency. Default GFA.
Saleable area acronym: the area you can sell or lease. Default NSA in meters and NRA in feet.
Floor space ratio acronym: building area divided by site area. Default FSR in meters and FAR in feet.
The acronyms show in Urban, the Building widget, area charts, and label templates.
Mapbox Basemap style URL
Mapbox Basemap style URL sets the base map behind your project, as a Mapbox style link. Most people change the basemap from map style presets instead. Use this setting to point the project at a custom Mapbox style your team has designed, like one that matches your brand.
Refresh the page after you change the style URL to see the new basemap.
Site Area
Site Area is the area of your site. Giraffe uses the area of the project boundary unless you type a different value.
Type your own value when the official lot area doesn't match the drawn boundary, like a surveyed area from a title or a lot area in a zoning certificate. Urban uses this value to calculate the project's FSR or FAR.
When you set Site Area by hand, Urban shows Project Area has been set manually. Click Edit the site area in that message to come back to this setting.
Site area values in Analytics always use the drawn boundary.
CRS
CRS is the coordinate reference system Giraffe uses when you import CAD and vector files, and when you export projected GeoJSON or DXF. Enter it in Proj4 format.
Set it to your local survey or state plane system when your consultants need exports that line up with their CAD drawings, or when files you import are in that system. Leave it empty to use a local projection centered on your project.
Lineage
Lineage is an optional note that records where the project came from, for auditing and version tracking. Most projects leave it empty.
Boundary color, opacity, and line style aren't in Setup. Change the boundary style from the Layer Palette.
