Edit a Flow

Update a saved flow

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Add or change flows on the fly.

From a Geometry

Select a geometry with a flow assigned.

Then, open the flow builder.

The Flow Builder canvas will automatically display the selected geometry's assigned flow.

From the Flow Builder

Open the flow builder.

Select a flow from the dropdown list.

Pin a Flow for Editing

To open the same flow every time you open the builder, regardless of selected geometry, enable the pin to the left of the flow selection dropdown.

Remove part of a flow building

You can remove part of what a flow building creates, like trees, cars, or the parking on a cross dock building, without exploding or baking it. The building stays a flow building. This works for flows you built and for flows added from the Flow Features tool.

Step 1: Check for a toggle in the property palette. Select the building and look in the Flow Controls section of the property palette. Look there for an input parameter or transform that turns that part off or changes its size. If one exists, change it there.

Step 2: If there's no toggle, delete the node in the flow.

  1. Select the building.

  2. Open the Flow Builder. The canvas shows that building's flow.

  3. Click the node that creates the geometry you want to remove, like the parking.

  4. Press Delete or Backspace.

The flow updates every geometry that uses it. To change only this building, duplicate the flow first and assign the copy to it.

Clicking the X next to the flow name in Flow Controls removes the whole flow from the geometry. To keep the flow and remove only one part of what it creates, edit the flow in the Flow Builder.

Change a flow on only some geometries

Editing a flow changes every geometry that uses it. To change only some geometries, duplicate the flow, edit the copy, and assign the copy to those geometries.

  1. Open the Flow Builder and select the flow from the dropdown.

  2. Open the menu and choose Duplicate Flow.

  3. Edit the copy.

  4. Select the geometries you want to change and assign the copy to those geometries.
