What is DAFpay Network?

DAFpay Network ("DPN") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that facilitates safe, easy, and fast charitable donations between Donor Advised Funds ("DAFs") and the 1.5 million 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the United States. DAFpay Network is the payment facilitator for Chariot Giving, Inc. (”Chariot”), a technology provider of DAF fundraising solutions for nonprofits.

DPN EIN: 93-1372175

Who is eligible for DAFpay Network gifts?

DPN can only grant donations to U.S.-based 501(c)(3) Public Charities.

Note: In cases where a nonprofit loses its 501(c)(3) status during the processing of a donation, DPN has a system in place for redirecting funds. Donors are informed and can choose a new beneficiary from DPN's directory. If the donor does not provide new instructions, DPN will allocate the donation to a similar organization within its network.

How does the DAFpay Network help nonprofits?

DPN helps nonprofits streamline acceptance of their DAF gifts mainly by getting rid of back-office headaches. Every DAF sends funds differently. Paper checks for major gifts get lost, or worse, get stolen, when sent in the mail. Nonprofits are stuck building processes for accepting payment and data in a variety of ways, depending on the DAF provider. DPN offers a single data and payment source for all DAF gifts regardless of the DAF provider.

Why did I receive a check from DAFpay Network?

For nonprofits who have not yet created an account with Chariot, DAFpay utilizes the DPN to simplify charitable donations while ensuring legal compliance in fund distribution. If your fundraising platform has been integrated with DAFpay, you'll receive an email from Chariot prompting you to claim your Chariot account - this only takes a few minutes.

Check Issuance Policy

If you opt to not claim your Chariot account within 60 days, DPN will issue and mail a check for any unclaimed funds to the address your nonprofit has on file wit the IRS - the process is just slower, riskier, and incurs additional fees.

Nonprofits looking to receive DAF gifts directly from providers should create an account with Chariot.

Fees for Check Issuance

A surcharge of $25 or 10% of the check amount (whichever is lower) will be applied for each check sent to nonprofits. Charities that create an account with Chariot will not incur these check issuance fees on any grants sent after enrolling.

Check Validity and Void Policy

Issued checks are valid for 90 days. After this period, unclaimed funds will be voided.

While we take all reasonable steps to attempt to grant donated funds according to the donor's recommendation, DPN retains exclusive legal control over all donations. In the rare cases when a charity does not claim the donation, we will (whenever possible) ask the donor to recommend an enrolled charity from the DPN Directory to benefit from the donation.

If we are unable to reach the donor, or the donor chooses not to respond, DPN will try to grant the funds to a charity in the DPN Directory that operates in a similar cause area to the charity originally recommended by the donor.

Where can I find donor information from DAFpay Network checks?

To view data associated with DAFpay gifts, you will need to create an account with Chariot.
