How can I increase the odds that my One Hour Consult request gets a match?

You've finally found time to make a request through Switchboard - how can you make sure you write a request that gets a match? Read on!

I've read a lot of requests - and I see what gets filled quickly, and which ones linger. Here are a few tips:

  • ⏰ Make sure your request can be accomplished in an hour! This is the biggest mistake a ministry can make. If you ask for the world (brainstorm and create a new website for my ministry), our Kingdom Consultants will be afraid to take the call. Remember, a one hour consult is just that! Something that can be accomplished in one hour. If you have a larger request, learn about how to request a Virtual Role instead!

  • πŸ’ͺ🏽 Make sure that you are making the request using the correct skill in our skills catalog. The request you make will be sent to 4 Kingdom Consultants who have the skill you are requesting. If you don't see a skill for your need, you are welcome to make the request, but know that the odds of filling it are decreased (we'll still do our best!).

  • βœ… When thinking about the problems you are trying to solve, some skills have more inventory (Kingdom Consultants) than others! Consider looking for skills in the categories of Life Skills, Common Conversations or Business Management. These categories are rich with volunteers who can't wait to hop on a call. Other categories such as Marketing and Accounting have received a lot of requests. We still have Kingdom Consultants, but matches may take a little longer.

  • πŸ€” Make sure you are making the right type of request. The types of requests that work well for an hour are requests for Brainstorming, Learning Something New, Solving a Specific problem or Getting Feedback.

  • 🌎 Make sure you are cognisant of time zones when listing the hours during which you can meet. Many of our Consultants are on Central Standard Time, so requests that ask to meet between 2am and 4am don't get picked up! If you want to give a few options and then mention in you request that you are flexible with times, that is a great way to indicate you are flexible.

  • πŸ™πŸ½ Finally, a little appreciation goes a long way. We all have a heart for the Great Commission, and we all have too much on our plates. Don't hesitate to thank the Kingdom Consultant in advance for their willingness to meet!

Still stumped on how to draft your request? We've got you! Choose the category "Switchboard Expertise" and skill "Building Requests" to schedule a 30 minute call with someone in Customer Success here at Switchboard.

We love hearing about your dreams and challenges and drafting a request that will move your mission forward!
