How do I Manage an Academic Calendar?

Updated over 11 months ago

Academic Calendars

From anywhere in your workspace, press on the workspace name in the top navigation [1] then press Calendar [2]. If you're not in the workspace you want to manage academic calendars for you can use the workspace switcher to quickly change to another workspace.

View the Current Academic Calendar

From the workspace calendar you can see the current workspace default academic calendar (not pictured), as well as view other available academic calendars [1]. Press Manage Academic and Course Calendars [2] to view all calendars, create new calendars, or edit existing calendars.

Create New or Edit Existing

From the list of all academic calendars you can press on any calendar to view and edit it [1]. You can create a new academic calendar by pressing +Academic Calendar [2]. The options for creating a new calendar or editing an existing calendar are the same.

Name, Start and End Dates

Enter or edit the name of the academic calendar, as well as the start and end of the academic year.

Non-instructional Days

Non-instructional days can be added to prevent units or resources from being assigned to those days. Non-instructional days can be labeled as anything, can span multiple days, and can be one of three types: Holiday (which appear in gold on the calendar), Assessment (which appear in red on the calendar) or Teacher Workday (which appear in gray on the calendar).

Instructional Days

Instructional days allows you to set which days of the week are typically used for instruction. Academic calendars default to a Monday-to-Friday week.

Grading Periods

Academic calendars can be broken down into either six or nine week grading periods. If you need both six and nine week calendars available you will need to make two academic calendars. If you have already set the start and end of the academic year pressing Calculate Grading Periods will distribute the grading periods over the year, which can then be modified.

Visibility

Visibility controls which workspaces can see this calendar. Visibility can be set to My Workspace, or My Workspace + Workspaces You Share With. If you are creating a calendar in a district workspace and want it to be visible in campus workspaces, it must be shared.

Save

Make sure you save your new calendar, or the edits made to the existing calendar.
