Build reports, share insights, and drive action using advanced reporting!

Advanced reporting is a quick and easy way to share information with your team while allowing you to have proactive insight as you execute on your dynamic plan!

Where to Find Advanced Reporting

If you have Admin permissions in Elate, you will be able to access Advanced Reporting. Using the left side panel, select the dropdown arrow next to Reporting then select Advanced.

You are now on the Reporting page. This is where you are able to build reports and view any archived reports. When you are ready to create a new report, hit the blue +New Report button in the top right.

Creating an Advanced Report

A new report will be created when you select the blue +New Report button and we are now able to build out a report. In the example below, we are creating a weekly leadership report for our weekly meeting. When you're ready to name your report, click into the title and type in the new name.

Adding a Header

Adding a header is helpful when creating reports because it allows you to section out your information and customize exactly how you want your report broken out!

To add a header, select the blue Add Header button. Once you hit the Add Header button, a new header will appear below the gray line. To rename the header, click into it and type in the new name. In the example below, the header is Summary.

Adding Text

Now that we've added a header to the report, you may want to add text to give your team more context, briefly summarize the report, or celebrate any wins! Please note you will need to manually update any text fields on the report as information changes. In our example, we are building a weekly leadership report so the text will need to be updated weekly before it is sent out.

To add a text field, select the blue Add Paragraph button. A text box will appear allowing you to type! In the example below, we are highlighting changes to our objectives and giving some shoutouts to our team.

Link Objectives

Linking objectives to your report allows for your team to see the objective name, status, and the latest commentary.

To link objectives, select the blue Link Objective(s) button.

You will then see a pop up asking how you want to link objectives. You have 2 options on how you would like to add objectives.

Linking Objectives from a Saved View

The most recommended option to link objectives is by creating a saved view of the objectives you wish to add to your report. This allows you to dynamically add the objectives that meet your criteria so as updates are made to objectives or more are added, your report stays up to date. Check our our article here on creating saved views!

To link objectives with a saved view you will select the From Saved View option.

You will then be prompted to select the view to show on the report, the date range for the objectives you want to show, and check the box to acknowledge that you understand that objectives on private teams may be shown on this report if it meets the criteria from your saved view. Select the blue Submit button when you're done.

You will then see the objectives that match the criteria in your saved view on your report! Please note the name of the saved view will appear at the top, as shown below.

Link Objectives Individually

You are also able to link objectives to your report individually by selecting the Link Objective option from the pop up below.

If you select Link Objective, you will be asked to select the team responsible for the objective you want to add, the date range it falls under, and the specific objective. Once you find the objective you are looking for, select the blue Submit button.

You will then see the objective populated on your report. Please notes that you will need to follow the steps above for each objective you wish to add.

Linking Objective Relationships

In addition to linking objectives, you are able to link objective relationships! This allows you to see parent, child, and related objectives.

To link objective relationships, select the Link Objective Relationship button.

You will then be prompted to select the team for the objective you want to show the relationships for, the date range, and specific objective you want to show.

Once you're done, select the blue Submit button. The objective name and the relationships it has will now appear on your report. As you can see below, my objective of Exceem $20M ARR has two child objectives that are now showing on my report.

Linking Outcomes

In addition to linking objectives to your report, you are able to link outcomes to give your team visibility into those business-as-usual metrics!

To link outcomes, select the blue Link Outcome(s) button. You're able to link outcomes individually or from a saved view.

Linking Outcomes from a Saved View

The most recommended option to link outcomes is by creating a saved view of the outcomes you wish to add to your report. This allows you to dynamically add the outcomes that meet your criteria so as more are added, your report stays up to date. Check our our article here on creating saved views!

To link outcomes from a saved view, select the From Saved View option.

You will then be able to select the view you want to link, the date range, and you will be asked to check a box to confirm you understand that outcomes on private teams could be included on the saved view. Once you're done, select the blue Submit button.

The saved view for the outcomes will then populate on your report!

Linking Outcomes Individually

If you want to link individual outcomes, you are also able to do that. Select the Link Outcome button to get started.

You are able to link outcomes by searching for them using the search box or you can find an outcome from the Recent Outcomes section. Please note you're able to change the date range using the arrows under the Select a Date Range section. Once you find the outcome you want to link, select it and hit the blue Submit button.

The outcome will then populate on your report!

Linking Tactics

In addition to linking outcomes, you're able to link tactics! You are able to link tactics individually or from a saved view. To link tactics, select the Link Tactics button.

Linking Tactics from a Saved View

The most recommended option to link tactics is by creating a saved view of the tactics you wish to add to your report. This allows you to dynamically add the tactics that meet your criteria so as more are added, your report stays up to date. Check our our article here on creating saved views!

To link tactics from a saved view, select the From Saved View option.

You will then be able to select the view you want to link, the date range, and you will be asked to check a box to confirm you understand that tactics on private teams could be included on the saved view. Once you're done, select the blue Submit button.

You will then select the team responsible for the tactic, the date range, and the specific tactic you want to link. Once you're done, select the blue Submit button.

The tactic will then populate on your report!

Adding Charts

Adding charts to your report gives your team another way to visualize the objectives! You are able to show the objective status and performance, allowing you see how many objectives are on pace, at risk, or behind and how many have gotten better, gotten worse, or stayed the same. To add a chart, you will need to use a saved view. Check out how to create a saved view here!

To add a chart, select the blue Add Chart button.

You will then be prompted to select the saved view you want to show a chart for, the date range, and which chart you want to add. Once you are done, select the blue Create button.

The chart will then populate on your report! In the example below, we added a chart to show the objective status. You are able to add another for objective performance and/or objective success using the steps above and selecting Objective Performance or Objective Success.

Rearranging the Report

Once you have all the information on your report, you may want to rearrange it. To move sections of your report around, you are able to drag and drop them using the 6 dots next to the titles.

Please note these move in sections so I will not be able to separate the objectives from the saved view, for example.

Here is the updated report from the screenshots above. We were able to move the sections around so that those important KPIs are at the top, our chart is below that showing the status of our objectives, and then the leadership objectives from the saved view are below.

Sharing Your Report

Once you have built your report, you are able to share it via email or link!

To share, select the blue share button in the top right corner.

If you select Via Link, you will be asked to select an expiration date for the link. Please note the link can only be active for a maximum of 7 days. Once you set the expiration date, select the blue Generate button.

You will then be given a pop up with a link you can copy and paste.

Sharing via email will send an email to recipients with a PDF of the report as well as a link to view the report in Elate. Please note all links to the report will expire after 7 days.

If you select Via Email, you will be asked to select a send cadence for your report and update the next send date if needed. Once you are done, select the blue Confirm button.

You are now able to add teams or specific users that you want to receive this report. Once you select teams and users, make sure you hit the blue Add to List button. Once you are done, select the blue Update button in the top right corner.

Once you've selected Update, you can close out of this pop up. You will now see the send cadence at the top of the report builder.

Tips on Advanced Reporting

Want to take your advanced reports to the next level? Check out these tips!

  • Create a saved view to save time on manually selecting the objectives you want to include in your report. Since saved views are dynamic, they will be updated in real time allowing you to see exactly what matches the criteria and saves time on updating the report!

  • Send your report out as a pre-read before meetings! For example, set the cadence of a leadership report to go out before the leadership meeting. This allows your team to come prepared and able to spend more time being proactive and intentional with the meeting.
