What to do if paint spills

  1. Get your spillage kit ready.

  2. Put on gloves to protect your hands.

  3. Contain and isolate the spill.

    • Surround and cover the spill with granules.

    • Try to prevent the spill from spreading, especially into drains and water sources.

    • Don't leave the spill unattended to avoid accidents with vehicles or pedestrians.

  4. Contact the store where you got the paint.

    • They'll provide some guidance and may send someone to help with the cleanup.

  5. Clean up the spill.

    • Use a dustpan and brush to mix the granules into the paint.

    • Sweep the granules and paint into a heavy-duty bag.

    • Use wipes to tidy up any mess.

    • Once you've removed as much paint as possible, put the dustpan, brush, gloves, and used wipes into the bag.

    • Place the spilled paint can in a separate bag to prevent contamination.

  6. Do not leave the scene until you have received clear instruction from the store.
