Hi there,
Welcome! 🎉
In this article we run through the basics of getting you set up in the app with a handy step by step checklist.
About GoSimpleTax
GoSimpleTax is a HMRC recognised tax software that enables the users to submit their tax return directly to HMRC. Users may need HMRC credentials with self assessment activated in order to submit, but if they don't have their own HMRC account, they can complete an ID check to use GoSimpleTax credentials instead.
GoSimpleTax is a self-service software that offers hints and tips throughout the completion process to assist with your tax return. Our support team is on hand during working hours (Monday to Friday 9am-4pm) to help with the use of the software. The support team do not give tax advice or comment directly on your tax affairs but will try to assist to the best of their knowledge. From time to time you may be suggested to seek professional paid advice.
All HMRC pages are available on GoSimpleTax (SA100, SA101, SA102, SA102M, SA103, SA104, SA105, SA106, SA107 and SA108 are covered in our normal Tax Return plan with SA109 available on our Residency plan).
1. Create your GoSimpleTax account
Firstly, press Get Started and enter some basic details to create your account.
2. Selecting your Tax Return type
On the next page, you will have a choice to choose between creating a SA100 Tax Return (Individual) or SA800 Tax Return (Partnership).
Multiple users
If you want more than one user on a single log in, this can be done once your account has been created.
You can't mix SA100 Tax Return (Individual) or SA800 Tax Return (Partnership) on the same email address. A separate email account will be needed.
Once you have selected a type, you will be asked what pages are to be included on your tax return. Tick the relevant options. Don't worry, other pages can be added later.
3. Getting familiar with GoSimpleTax
To set up your account in full, we always recommend you go to the 'Personal details' page located at the top of the page and update the account with your personal information.
Once you have saved your personal information, you can then navigate through the pages you have added to your Tax Return. The pages are located down the left hand side of the page.
The 'New Page' button is also located here if you need to add any additional pages.
Depending on the pages, you may need to click into them on the left hand side and add some additional details within the 'EDIT' page button.
To make entries on each page press the '+' button next to Income or Expenses.
4. Multiple user accounts
See our help article on how to add more users to your account here.
If you are in a partnership and want to file both the partner's SA100 tax return and the partnership's SA800 tax return, please see this help article.
If you are happy with GoSimpleTax why not subscribe? Hit the green 'Pay Now' button at the top of the page and unlock all the cool features the software has to offer!

5. Submitting your Tax Return to HMRC
You may need HMRC credentials with self assessment activated in order to submit, but if you don't have your own HMRC account with self assessment activated, you can complete an ID check to use GoSimpleTax credentials instead.
ID checks must be completed by the person who's tax return it is and will be limited to 2 attempts per tax return (per tax year). If you fail both attempts using the ID checking system, you will be instructed to file using your own credentials or to print and post your tax return to HMRC.
We recommend any Accountants that are representing their clients to register as an Agent with HMRC. This will enable you to use your Agent credentials when submitting your client's tax returns without the need to do an ID check. Please see HMRC's instructions on how to Register as an Agent. ID checks may not be allowed on an Agent account as we encourage all Agents to register with HMRC to ensure they can file on behalf of their clients.
Terms and conditions apply.
