Best Practices for Bulk Messaging 

It's important to adhere to a few best practices while messaging candidates to ensure you maximize your success and don't get flagged as spam. 

Context is key

Will the candidate know who you are or why they're getting a text from you? If not, think twice before sending a bulk message because you run the risk of candidates reporting you as spam. 

Strive to send bulk messages as soon as possible after a hiring event or after a candidate applies. If you are messaging a candidate cold, be sure to reference  specific context as to why you're reaching out in a way that's relevant for the candidate.

Before sending a bulk message, always step back and ask, "Would I be ok receiving a message like this? Would I find it valuable or would this feel like spam?"

Keep it concise

Keep your first message under 160 characters if possible. Grayscale doesn't limit your character count, but longer messages can look more spammy than shorter ones. Phone carriers are also more likely to flag longer messages as spam when messaging en mass.  

Limit the size of your candidate list

Limit the number of candidates to 200 or less at a time for optimal deliverability. You can send multiple batches in a day, but by breaking up the list into multiple bulk message, you ensure you are not getting flagged by the carriers spam filters.
