When crafting messages to candidates, we know inserting links can be really helpful throughout the hiring process! Because of specific regulations, like the 10DLC, it's important to know the dos and don'ts of leveraging links in your messaging.

Shortened URLs

  • Don't: Send links that have been shortened using shared public URL shorteners, such as TinyUrl or free Bitly links. United States carrier policies discourage the use of shared public URL shorteners.

  • Do: When sending text messages containing shortened URLs to candidates in the United States, use a dedicated, branded short domain that belongs to your business.

If you want to utilize shortened URLs, some URL shortener websites offer a paid plan which allows you to use a unique domain. In either case, you should stick to the above rules to avoid higher risk of filtering on your messages.

Long URLs

  • If possible, use domains that you control when sending URLs/links in your messages.

  • When sending links, it's best to use a URL that is specific to business.

But won't long URLs affect my messages getting split up?

They shouldn't! You can send messages containing up to 480 characters* without being split, as long as you aren't using any special characters.

*Our recommendation is to send messages that are no more than 320 characters to ensure the best deliverability and user experience 😊

Happy texting! 🎉
