You may have received the Spiio™ Soil Sensor Installation Tool with your sensor. If so, follow the steps below to ensure proper installation and accurate data collection:
Using the Spiio™ Soil Sensor Installation Tool
The Spiio™ Soil Sensor Installation Tool is designed to help you create the correct space in the soil for accurate sensor placement. It ensures proper soil contact around the sensor, which is critical for reliable data collection.
What the Installation Tool Does
After preparing your hole (using a cup cutter, auger, or similar tool), the installation tool is used to:
Shape the soil to match the size and orientation of the Spiio sensor
Eliminate air gaps around the sensor
Ensure proper horizontal placement for accurate readings
For Full Installation Instructions
For step-by-step guidance on sensor setup, signal testing, and registration, please refer to the full installation guide:
How to Use the Installation Tool
Prepare the Hole
Dig the installation hole to the recommended depth and remove any loose soil from the bottom.Position the Installation Tool
Place the installation tool horizontally against the soil face where the sensor will be installed.Align the Indicator Line
Ensure the indicator line on the top of the installation tool is positioned vertically (up and down). This ensures the sensor will be installed in the correct orientation.Use a Rubber Mallet
Using a rubber mallet, tap the installation tool firmly into the soil until the tool is fully inserted and flush with the surrounding soil face.Remove the Tool
Carefully pull the installation tool straight out of the soil. This will leave a properly sized cavity for the sensor installation.Verify the Cavity
The cavity should match the shape of the sensor and provide good soil contact once the sensor is inserted.
After Using the Tool
Insert the Spiio soil sensor into the shaped cavity
Ensure the sensor is placed horizontally
Confirm the white arrow direction and orientation match installation guidance
Push firmly to ensure full soil contact
Important: Keep QR Code Visible
Ensure the QR code label is not covered during installation. You’ll need to scan it when adding the sensor in the GreenCast Connect app.
Next Step: Complete Setup in the App
Your sensor is now physically installed.
To begin collecting and viewing data, you’ll need to add and set up the sensor in the GreenCast Connect app.
