How to recover your Cloud services data

In many cases, Cloud services represent a very important part of the companies' carbon footprint, especially in the Digital sector.

The Greenly platform allows you to analyze the impact of these services at a very large scale by analyzing your transactions in your accounting file. This remains an estimate whose uncertainty can be very large depending on the Cloud providers you deal with, their infrastructure, the types of services you benefit from, etc.

We therefore propose to go further by analyzing your detailed service invoices. These invoices are not simple documents about monetary transactions only, but documents specifying the nature of the services you consume :

  • Type of service: compute, storage, transfer, etc.

  • Description of the hardware: type of component, name of the computing instance, etc.

  • Quantities used per service: virtual processor hours consumed, bandwidth, storage capacity used (GB), throughput...

  • And potentially much more information!

In order to send us this cloud data, three possibilities exist:

  • Manual retrieval of cloud invoices – This option is only for cases where the API connection is impossible, and can lead to lower precision in the cloud study (Here are examples of cloud invoices)

  • Manual retrieval of cloud carbon footprint from your provider - For now, only OVH methodology has been rated sufficient by our experts.

We recommend that you use the API connection (which is available for AWS and Azure) to speed up the analysis.

How to share your detailed Cloud invoices

If you are using one (or more) of the following 4 cloud providers, please follow the specific procedure listed below.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Please follow this procedure (also visible in your AWS module) to send us your AWS data. The requested External ID is "yourcompanyname_2328".

Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Follow GCP instructions here. At step 3 of the instructions, enable the export of pricing data. At step 4, select a multi-region - either US or EU -. At step 5, enable all 3 exports available.

Once this is done, import the generated files in your GCP module.

👉 Note that the GCP carbon footprint reporting methodology is currently being assessed by our experts.

OVH Cloud

Your carbon footprint exports are available on your dashboard, section “Carbon footprint”. Make sure to collect the data for all the months of the assessment.

Microsoft AZURE

You can follow this procedure (also visible in your Azure module) provided to share with us your Microsoft AZURE data.
