Once you have completed your greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, it is important to understand, analyse and share your results.
GHG emissions can be aggregated in several different ways, each of these possibilities having a particular purpose.
Total GHG emissions
GHG emissions aggregated by Greenly sub-category and category
GHG emissions aggregated by regulatory entry and by Scope
Calculation methodology
How are your GHG emissions computed?
Your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are computed using a monetary and/or activity-based approach: your expenses (in USD, GBP, EUR, etc.) or certain physical flows linked to your activities (kg/lbs, litre/gallon, meter/feet, etc.) are multiplied by emission factors (kgCO2e/unit).
The total result of your GHG inventory is the sum of all these emissions.
Aggregation by sub-category and category
Once this first step is carried out, your GHG emissions are aggregated by Greenly sub-category : to do this, each emission factor is linked to a sub-category.
Examples of Greenly sub-category : "manufactured goods", "fuel", "land freight", "web services, SaaS, IT licences", etc.
Your emissions are then classified by Greenly category: to do this, each sub-category is linked to a larger category. A category includes several sub-categories with similar characteristics.
Examples of Greenly category : "product purchases", "services purchases", "waste", "travel and commute", "energy", "freight", etc.
Aggregation by regulatory entry and Scope
A second way of showing your results is to classify your GHG emissions by regulatory entry and by Scope.
Each Greenly sub-category is associated with one or more regulatory entries. Each regulatory entry is linked to a Scope (1 to 3).
Depending on the methodology you have selected (GHG Protocol or the French regulatory assessment BEGES v4 or v5), the regulatory entries may vary.
Examples of regulatory entries: "generation of electricity, heat or steam", "electricity related indirect emissions", "upstream transportation and distribution", "business travel", "purchased goods and services", "capital goods", "end-of-life treatment of sold products", etc.
Warning - For the French regulatory assessment BEGES v5, regulatory entries aren't aggregated by Scope but by regulatory category :
Category 1 corresponds to Scope 1
Category 2 corresponds to Scope 2
Categories 3 to 6 correspond to Scope 3

These bars correspond (from left to right) to Greenly subcategories, Greenly categories, regulatory entries and Scopes.
Horizontal bar (3 sections connecting the vertical bars)
Flows link the different aggregates together. These flows follow the steps of the calculation presented above. From left to right :
1st section - Each Greenly sub-category is linked to a larger Greenly category
2nd section - Each Greenly sub-category is also linked to one or more regulatory entry
⚠️ The same original Greenly subcategory may be associated with several regulatory entries.
⚠️ There is no direct link between a Greenly category and a regulatory entry. The link is created by sub-categories.
3rd section - Each regulatory entry is linked to a Scope
