Introduction

Going through the platform, you might realize that you have 0 emissions in one or several regulatory entries. This article aims to explain to you which modules are relevant to check if that happens. It will focus on GHG Protocol regulatory entries.

If you are not doing a GHG Protocol, you can check this article for BEGES.

1.1 Generation of electricity, heat, or steam

Emissions related to this category result from the combustion of fuels in stationary sources (boilers, furnaces, turbines, etc.) within the organizational boundary of the legal entity (i.e. the facilities it owns and/or controls).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Building

  • Energy

  • Event

  • Fuel Consumption

1.2 Transportation of materials, products, waste, and employees

Emissions related to this category result from the consumption of fuels in company-owned/controlled mobile combustion sources (e.g. cars, trucks, trains, buses).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Employee

  • Fuel Consumption

1.3 Physical or chemical processing

Emissions related to this sub-category, specific to the industry sector, are caused by the use of gas in industrial processes (e.g. limestone processing for cement production).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the Industrial processes module.

1.4 Direct fugitive emissions

Emissions related to this category result from intentional or unintentional releases: e.g. equipment leaks from joints, seals, packing, and gaskets; HFC emissions during the use of refrigeration and conditioning equipment; methane emissions from coal mines and venting; methane leakages from gas transport; methane emissions from the decomposition of waste or nitrous oxide emissions from the use of fertilizers.

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Building

  • Consultants & Contractors

  • Data Center

  • Refrigerant Gas

2.1 Electricity-related indirect emissions

GHG emissions related to this category result from generating electricity (fossil, nuclear or renewable power) outside the legal entity's organizational boundary.

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Building

  • Employee

  • Energy

  • Event

  • Fuel Consumption

2.2 Steam, heat, and cooling related indirect emissions

GHG emissions related to this category result from the consumption of energy (other than electricity) that is produced outside the legal entity's organizational boundary (e.g. boilers).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Building

  • Employee

  • Fuel Consumption

3.1 Purchased goods and services

GHG emissions related to this category result from the extraction, production, and transportation of goods and services purchased or acquired by the reporting company in the reporting year, not otherwise included in categories 3.2 to 3.8.

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • SaaS & Software

  • Service Purchase

3.2 Capital goods

GHG emissions related to this category result from the extraction, production, and transportation of capital goods purchased or acquired by the reporting company in the reporting year (buildings and other infrastructures, vehicles, machinery, IT equipment, furniture, etc.).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Asset

  • Consultants & Contractors

  • Data Center

  • Expense Note

  • IT Inventory

  • Machine Inventory

  • Vehicle Fleet

3.3 Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or Scope 2

GHG emissions related to this category result from the extraction, production, and transportation of fuels and energy purchased or acquired by the reporting company in the reporting year, not already accounted for in scope 1 or scope 2: i.e. upstream emissions of purchased fuels; upstream emissions of purchased electricity; transmission and distribution losses; generation of purchased electricity that is sold to end users).

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Building

  • Fuel Consumption

3.4 Upstream transportation and distribution

GHG emissions related to this category result from:

  • Transportation and distribution of products purchased by the reporting company in the reporting year between a company’s tier 1 suppliers and its own operations (in vehicles and facilities not owned or controlled by the reporting company)

  • Third-party transportation and distribution services purchased by the reporting company in the reporting year (either directly or through an intermediary), including inbound logistics, outbound logistics (e.g., of sold products), and third-party transportation and distribution between a company’s own facilities

If this regulatory entry has 0 emissions, we advise you to check the following modules:

  • Employee

  • Event

  • Expense Note

  • Freight

  • Fuel Consumption

3.5 Waste generated in operations

GHG emissions related to this category result from the disposal and treatment of waste generated by the reporting company’s operations in the reporting year (in facilities not owned or controlled by the reporting company) (e.g. incineration, compost, landfill, recycling).
