Identify a legal location from the map

The Legal Location Identifier answers "what is the legal description of this spot?" Click a point on the Common Operating Picture (COP+) map and get its legal location in DLS, NTS, or Ontario format. Useful for radioing a position or filling in regulatory paperwork.

Steps

  1. Open Toolbox in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click Legal Location Identifier. The cursor changes to cross-hairs.

  3. Click the point on the map you want identified. The communication bubble icon in the top grey menu bar signals the result is ready.

  4. Click the icon. The Legal Location Lookup box shows the legal location for that point.

To search instead

This tool goes from map to description. To go from a known legal description to the map, use Search by legal location.
