Search by legal location
Legal Location search finds a spot on the Common Operating Picture (COP+) map from its legal land description. Three survey systems are supported: DLS, NTS, and Ontario (Townships, Lots, and Concessions).
Steps
Open Search in the left-hand menu.
Click Legal Location. The Search By Legal window opens.
Choose the system: DLS, NTS, or Ontario.
Fill in the location fields. Fields marked with an asterisk (for example TWP*, RGE*, MER*) are required; the rest can stay blank for a partial search.
Run the search. The map moves to the location.
Partial searches are the fast path: enter only the required fields and refine from the results.
To identify a location instead
This tool goes from description to map. To go the other way and get the legal location of a point you click, use the Legal Location Identifier in the Toolbox.
