Not all habits need to last a lifetime. Some are designed for specific projects, challenges, or seasons of life. The End Condition setting lets you define a clear finish line for these temporary habits, helping you stay focused and giving you a great sense of accomplishment when you cross it.
There are four ways to set an end point for your habit.
On a Date
This is the most straightforward option. You choose a specific date on the calendar, and when that day arrives, the habit is automatically marked as complete and tracking stops.
Best for: Habits tied to a fixed schedule, like a 30-day challenge or preparing for an event.
Example: You start a "Study Vietnamese for 1 hour" habit to prepare for a trip. You can set the end condition to be the day before you fly out.
After a Streak
This option focuses on consistency. The habit ends after you've successfully completed it for a certain number of consecutive periods (like days, weeks, or months). It’s all about building an unbroken chain of success.
Best for: Building new, automatic behaviors where daily practice is key.
Example: You want to make meditation a part of your routine. Set the habit "Meditate for 10 minutes" to end after you achieve a 100-day streak. By then, the practice will likely feel natural.
After Total Completions
This condition ends the habit after you complete it a specific number of periods. Unlike a streak, these completed periods don't have to be consecutive. This allows for flexibility and focuses on total frequency over perfect consistency.
Best for: Goals where showing up is what matters, even if you miss a day here and there.
Example: Your goal is to "Go to the gym 4 times per week," and you set the end condition to 50 completions. The habit only ends after your 50th successful week.
By Total Amount
This option is perfect for habits with a cumulative, numerical goal. Tracking stops once the total value you've logged reaches your target number.
Best for: Large-scale projects or measurable milestones.
Example: You set a goal to "Read more." You can create a habit to track the number of pages you read and set the end condition to when you’ve logged a total of 10,000 pages. Each reading session adds to your grand total.
