The Habitify timer on your Apple Watch is the perfect tool for staying focused on your duration-based habits—like meditation, reading, or studying—right from your wrist, without needing to pick up your phone.

This guide will walk you through how to find the timer, start a session, and control it while it's running.

Important: Which Habits Have a Timer?

Before you begin, it's important to know that the Timer button will only appear for habits that have a goal measured in "minutes" or "hours".

The timer will not appear for yes/no completion habits (like "Take vitamins") or habits measured in other units (like "Drink 2L of water"). If you can't find the timer, please check the habit's setup on your iPhone and ensure its goal is set to a duration unit.

How to Start a Timer Session

  1. Open the Habitify app on your Apple Watch.

  2. Tap on the duration-based habit you want to start (e.g., "Meditate").

  3. Scroll down past the habit details and tap the "Timer" button.

  4. You will see a setup screen to adjust the length of your session. Tap on the minutes or seconds to select them.

  5. Use the Digital Crown (the dial on the side of your watch) to adjust the time. You can set the timer for a maximum of 999 minutes and 59 seconds.

  6. Once you're ready, tap the "Start" button on the watch screen to begin your session.

How to Control the Timer (While Running)

While your session is in progress, you will see a live countdown on your watch. You have three main controls on this screen:

  1. Pause / Resume (Bottom-Right Button):

    • Tap the pause button (||) in the bottom-right corner to take a break.

    • The button will change to a play icon (▶). Tap it again to resume your session.

  2. Enable Background Sounds (Headphone Button):

    • Tap the headphone icon in the middle to turn on or off a selection of ambient background sounds to help you focus.

  3. Stop & Save Session (Top-Left 'X' Button):

    • Tap the 'X' icon in the top-left corner at any time to stop the timer.

    • You will be asked whether you want save the elapsed time to your habit's progress for the day. For example, if your goal was 30 minutes but you stopped at 15, you can choose to save 15 minutes or not.
