For AEP (Oct 15–Dec 7), when enrolling with a Jan 1, 2026 effective date, Humana is instructing agents not to select an SEP in the application.
These enrollments will automatically be treated as AEP eligibility.
Selecting an SEP reason during this period may trigger a submission error – so simply skip the SEP section:
You should still select an SEP if:
Enrolling outside of AEP (Oct 15–Dec 7)
Enrolling in a plan year 2025 plan
Error resolution
If you do select an SEP reason on an AEP enrollment, when you try to submit the enrollment, you'll see this error returned from Humana which says "The requested effective date must be the first day of next month." (This error message doesn't seem relevant, but ignore that, it is relevant to this SEP issue.)
To resolve this, close the popup, and click on the "Eligibility information" section:
Then, deselect all checkboxes in the Special Enrollment Period section
Then, scroll down and click the Continue button on each page:
Until you end up back on the final Review & Submit page. Scroll down and click Submit, and you won't see the error:
