How to Install Drivers

This article shows how to install additional phone drivers on your Mac or PC if they are required but didn’t install automatically.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Drivers allow your computer to communicate and send commands to your phone. If the drivers aren’t installed, your device may still connect to the computer, but you may not be able to initiate an extraction.

This article explains how to install Apple or Android drivers on your computer if they were blocked or skipped during the installation of the Hearsay Extractor.

When to install drivers

If your phone isn’t connecting to the Hearsay Extractor, and/or you see an error message with a link to install drivers, follow the instructions below. Drivers are created by the phone's manufacturer and are required for your computer to connect to your phone.

On a PC (Windows)

Install drivers from the link provided in the error message.

  1. Click the driver link from the error message in the Hearsay Extractor or find the appropriate link below.

  2. When prompted, download and open the driver installer file.

  3. If Windows or an antivirus program (e.g. MacAfee, Windows Defender) blocks the install, click More info, then click Run anyway.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.

  5. Once installed, restart your computer.

  6. Reopen the Hearsay Extractor and reconnect your phone.

It is more common for Windows computers to not have iPhone drivers pre-installed than Android Drivers.

On a Mac

Install drivers from the link provided in the error message.

  1. Click the driver link from the error message in the Hearsay Extractor or find the appropriate link below.

  2. Download and open the installer file.

  3. If your Mac blocks the app, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security.

  4. Scroll down and click Allow next to the blocked app or developer name.

  5. Complete the installation steps, then restart your computer.

  6. Reopen the Hearsay Extractor and reconnect your phone.

Note: Apple computers usually are preconfigured with iPhone drivers already installed. If you are having difficulty connecting an iPhone, please check the USB cord, USB port and Extractor installation, too.
