How we select the countries that go into your reports
For our reports, we show the top global producers of the crop, along with relevant exporters or countries we report prices on. Additional countries are almost always available via our platform.
% Market Share: The percentage of the total global production each country produces for that commodity. For example, if a country’s market share is “80%” for Wheat, that means they produce 80% of the world’s Wheat.
How to use our reports:
Making purchasing decisions on how much supply to purchase or when to purchase
As leverage and additional insight in contract negotiation with suppliers or buyers
As an additional tool to make trading decisions and accurately forecast when prices will rise
Our reports and platform provides a quantitative, third-party source of truth to help explain decision making, price adjustments and purchasing decisions with buyers
Leveraging our Reports
Below is a real-life case study on how companies are able to leverage the reports to make decisions.
Libby’s saved 15% on a year’s worth of Mandarins after seeing increased climate risk on Helios’ monthly commodity report.
Background and Challenge:
Libby’s, a leading brand known for its canned fruits and vegetables, has been a trusted name in the food industry for over 150 years. With a commitment to deliver high-quality products, Libby’s faced challenges in consistently sourcing fruits and vegetables amid changing climate patterns. As the global food supply chain becomes increasingly volatile, Libby’s procurement team partnered with Helios to leverage our predictive tools and forecasts to ensure a stable supply of products - at a reasonable price.
What Happened?
Libby’s received the August 2024 Helios commodity report, which forecasted significant rainfall in China for mandarins. After seeing the forecast on the report, Libby’s procurement team then verified the climate risk on their CommodiTrack™ dashboard. At the time, they were trying to put together a procurement strategy for mandarins - how much supply they should purchase as well as when they should purchase.
How Libby’s Saved 15%
Once Libby’s had looked over the CommodiTrack dashboard, it was clear that the rainfall would impact the overall harvest and increase prices. They used this information to purchase 12 months of their Chinese mandarin supply, earlier than they had originally planned. Six weeks later, when they would have purchased, the price of mandarins had gone up by 15% due to low supply.
