Why do my variant/color swatches disappear when using the Bundler?

Understand why your theme's native variant selectors and color swatches are hidden when the bundler is active, and what options you have.

When you have an active bundle on a product page, your theme's native variant selectors and color swatches are automatically hidden and replaced by the bundler's own variant selectors. This is expected behavior, not a bug.

In this article:

Why this happens

The bundler needs its own variant selectors because a single offer can include multiple items that each require a variant selection. For example, a "Buy 3, Save 20%" offer needs three separate variant dropdowns so the customer can pick a different color or size for each item. Your theme's native variant selector only supports selecting one variant at a time, so it can't handle this.

When the bundler is active on a product page, it takes over variant selection entirely to ensure the bundle works correctly.

What changes for your customers

There are two visible changes when the bundler is active:

Variant selectors switch to the bundler's format. Instead of your theme's native swatches (color circles, image swatches, buttons, etc.), customers see the bundler's dropdown menus for selecting variants like color and size.

Dynamic image updates based on variant selection may be disabled. Some themes update the main product image when a customer selects a different color swatch. This functionality may not work while the bundler is active, since the bundler uses its own variant selection system.

ℹ️ You can partially restore the native swatch experience by enabling "Use native theme swatches" in the bundle's Settings tab, or by customizing the bundler's swatches using the "Edit swatches" option (Default, Color swatch, or Image swatch). See [Bundle settings and product targeting] for details.

Your options

Customize the bundler's swatches. Click "Edit swatches" in the Settings tab to switch from the default dropdown to color swatches or image swatches. You can also adjust the swatch size and shape (Square, Circle, or Rounded Square) to better match your theme's style.

Enable "Display variant's image as main product image when selected." This option in the Settings tab under Variant image settings restores the behavior of updating the main product image when a customer selects a variant through the bundler.

Enable "Use native theme swatches." This option in the Settings tab tells the bundler to use your theme's swatch styles instead of its own. Results vary by theme, but it can help maintain visual consistency.

Disable the bundler on specific products. If the native swatch experience is critical for certain products, you can change the bundle's product targeting to exclude those products. See [Bundle settings and product targeting] for how to set product targeting.
