Who this is for: Hosts and Cleaning Companies on a hotspot job.
A hotspot is a small portable device that creates a WiFi network over the cell network. On this job you buy the device and a prepaid data plan on your PEX card, reach out to Landing to activate it, and set it up in the home.
Where do I get one?
Buy a prepaid hotspot and its matching data plan from Walmart, Target, or Best Buy. Pick the brand whose cell network has the best coverage at that property.
Walmart: Straight Talk Moxee hotspot + Straight Talk 100GB data plan (Verizon network), or AT&T GoLink 5G hotspot + AT&T 100GB data plan (AT&T network).
Target: Simple Mobile Moxee hotspot + Simple Mobile 40GB data plan (T-Mobile network).
Best Buy / Walmart: Total by Verizon Moxee hotspot + a Total by Verizon plan (Verizon network).
Two things to know before you buy:
The device and the plan must be the same brand. Each hotspot is locked to its own carrier, so a Straight Talk plan only works in a Straight Talk device, and so on.
The SIM is already in the device. You do not buy a SIM separately. The data plan is separate from the device.
What if the home is occupied?
A member may be living in the home when you arrive. Before you go in, follow Entering into an Occupied Home: knock several times, announce "Landing," and wait. If the member answers, let them know you are there to set up the temporary internet. Landing will coordinate the timing with the member.
How do I set it up?
Buy the hotspot and a matching data plan on your PEX card. Choose the largest data plan available, such as 100GB.
Once you have the device and the plan, reach out to Landing with the device serial number or IMEI, which is on the label on the back of the device or on the box, along with the plan PIN.
Do not activate the plan with a personal email. Reach out to us for activation, and Landing will tell you which email to use. We complete the activation with you on a Landing account, so the hotspot stays under Landing's control. Wait for us to confirm it is active before you go on.
Power the device on and find its WiFi name and password, shown on the device screen or on a label inside it.
Connect your phone and run a speed test to confirm it works. See Landing WiFi.
Place the hotspot where it gets the best signal. Follow the device instructions and use its signal indicator to find the spot with the strongest connectivity in the home, such as near a window. Keep it plugged in so it stays charged.
Leave a card or paper with the WiFi network name and password in the home, so the member can connect.
What if it does not work?
If the hotspot will not activate or will not connect after setup, let Landing know which home you are on and what you have tried.
