Understanding if we should or should not pay taxes in the United States can be a little confusing, so we would like to tell you that it is mandatory to calculate monthly income tax through the Carnê-Leão (CL).

To calculate the Carnê-Leão, you need to follow the following steps:

  1. Identify the income (dividend, rent, interest, etc.).

  2. Add the same type of income (in original currency);

  3. Identify eventual deductions (commission, taxes, etc.).

  4. Deduct the same type of deduction from the type of income;

The exchange rate you should use to convert from USD to BRL is that of the last business day of the first fortnight of the month before the receipt of the income (i.e. the 15th of the previous month if the 15th is not a business day, then the 14th, etc.).

Such calculation may result in a tax that you must pay or not; if any tax is to be paid, this information will be reconfirmed by your trusted accountant.
