Is News Trading Allowed?

Written by Hex Funded

News trading and weekend trading both carry their own distinct risks. High-impact news events can cause rapid market movements and extreme volatility in a very short period of time. Trades held over the weekend are exposed to overnight and gap risks that do not exist during normal trading hours.

To manage these risks responsibly, Hex Funded has different rules in place depending on the account type and stage you are trading on.

We use Forex Factory as the official source for our news calendar. High-impact news events and speeches are highlighted in red.

1-Step, 2-Step and 3-Step Accounts

During the Evaluation

There are no restrictions on holding or managing trades during news events during the evaluation stage. You are free to manage your positions as you see fit.

Important: Deliberately exploiting news events as a trading strategy is prohibited and will result in account closure. News trading as a structured strategy is not permitted.

During the Funded Account

You may hold trades through news events on your funded account, however specific restrictions apply to trades opened or closed near high-impact news events.

High-Impact News Event Restrictions

You cannot open, close or modify positions within a 10-minute window surrounding a high-impact (red folder) news event on any affected currency. This restricted window covers:

  • 5 minutes before the event

  • 5 minutes after the event

For high-impact news speeches, the restricted window runs from 5 minutes before the speech begins until 5 minutes after the speech concludes.

Instant Funded Accounts

The rules for Instant Funded accounts are stricter. Holding trades during high-impact news events or over the weekend is not permitted on Instant Funded accounts. Violations will result in an immediate account breach.

News Event Restrictions

  • No position may be held or opened within 5 minutes before or 5 minutes after a high-impact news event on any affected currency

  • For speeches, the restricted window runs from 5 minutes before the speech begins until 5 minutes after the speech concludes

  • Opening a trade on an affected currency within this window will result in account termination

Weekend Trading Restrictions

Holding positions over the weekend is not permitted on Instant Funded accounts. All trades must be fully closed before the market closes on Friday. Any position left open over the weekend will constitute a breach.

Pre-Set Limit Orders

Limit orders placed more than 5 minutes before the event - with a Stop Loss and Take Profit already set - may be triggered during the event.

Consequence for Violations

Any violation of the above rules will result in a hard breach of the funded account.
