Leaking Connectors - Troubleshooting

How to fix leaks coming from Hoselink connectors/ fittings. This includes the hose end & tap connectors, the hose end with flow control, the accessory connector & swivel, the click on adaptor. This does not apply to spray guns or othering watering products

Updated over a week ago

At Hoselink, we have invested countless hours perfecting our hose connectors to ensure years of dependable performance.

If you find that your fittings are leaking, use this guide to diagnose the issue and resolve.

Issues can include incorrect assembly of Hoselink Fittings, missing washers or o-rings or damaged fittings.

Leaks may occur between the hose and connectors, between accessory sets with flow control, at spray gun fittings, and at nozzle connections.

Resolutions provided below for each symptom.

Warranty: 2 year warranty for connectors. 3 months for the click on adaptor.

To effectively resolve these problems, the first step is identifying the exact source of the leak. Use the video below to identify:

Leaking at Tap

Leaking at the tap indicates an issue with universal tap connector. Water will be squirting out where the tap connector meets the garden tap.

Resolution

If water is leaking from the top of the Universal Tap Connector, there are 3 things to check:

  • Try to further tighten the connector on to the tap. Try using a towel wrapped around it to get a better grip.

  • Ensure the Universal Tap Connector is not cross-threaded.

  • Unscrew the Universal Tap connector and inspect the black washer in the top of the connector. It the washer is damaged, flattened or missing, replacements parts can be purchased:

The reducer is the small ridged part indicated in the photo below:

Leaking between Connectors

Leaking between connectors occurs in the space where two fittings join together. Water may be squirting or dribbling out.

Resolution

When water is squirting out between two fittings it indicates that an o-ring is missing or that there is a gap between the fitting.

This includes coupling of:

  • 2 hose end connectors

  • A hose end connector (with or without flow controller) and an accessory connector (or accessory connector with swivel)

  • A hose end connector and a tap connector

For a Missing o-ring

  • Check the o-rings by disconnecting the fittings from each other

  • Inspect the face of each fitting for the black o-ring.

  • If missing or flattened, replace the missing o-ring with a spare. Spare o-rings are supplied with all Hoselink connectors, kits, hoses and reels. You can also buy spare o-rings HERE.

    For a Gap between fittings

Hoselink fittings should sit snugly together, with no gaps or movement. If you are fittings have loosened over time and you are experiencing a slow leak, the fittings will need to be re-fitted or replaced.

To determine which fitting needs replacing we suggest isolating the issue by:

  • Uncoupling the two connectors

  • Test each fitting by coupling to a different connector

  • Test under water pressure. If no leaking is present, the connector that was removed from the system was the issue.

  • If the issue is with the hose end connector, try removing and re-fitting it, to see if that resolves the leak. Use the instructions HERE to perform this task.

  • If re-fitting did not work or the issue is with another connector it will need to be replaced.

Slow leak trickling between fittings & screw nut

Hoselink fittings should sit snugly together, with no gaps or movement. If you are fittings have loosened over time and you are experiencing a slow leak, the fittings will need to be re-fitted or replaced.

Resolution

This is most likely caused by an incorrectly fitted Hose End Connector. You will need to remove and re-fit the hose on to the connector.

Instructions on how to remove the Hose End Connector and re-fit successfully can be found below:

Leaking between watering accessory (Sprayer / sprinkler) & accessory connector

If you notice water leaking between the Accessory Connector (or Accessory Connector with Swivel) and your attached accessory (such as a sprayer or sprinkler), the issue is likely due to a missing or worn-out washer.

Resolution

Unscrew the Accessory Connector from the bottom of the accessory.

Look inside the base of the accessory for the black washer.

If missing or worn, replacement 3/4 inch washers can be purchased HERE: 3/4" Washer

Leaking due to damaged fitting

A damaged hose end connector with flow control or accessory connector with swivel, may result in a leak from your connectors.

Resolution

  1. Hose End Connector with Flow Control

If the side of the lever has popped out of your Hose Connector with Flow Control, you will experience water spurting out from the screw hole. The lever connects to the ball valve within the fitting.

The hose end connector will flow control could also be called the valve at the end of the hose.

If this has happened, then the item needs replacing.

The product has a two year warranty. To purchase a new product click HERE, or start a warranty claim with customer service.

If the lever has cracked and the screw section remains undamaged, a replacement lever can be purchased HERE.

  2. Accessory Connector with Swivel

If your sprayer keeps popping off the fitting, it is likely that your accessory connector with swivel is damaged. This is the fitting that connects between your hose and your watering accessory (such as a sprayer or sprinkler). When damaged you will see a brass stem with two black rubber o-rings exposed.

This cannot be repaired. The product has a 2 year warranty or can be purchased HERE.
