WorkSafe TAS Regulatory Changes

This information is designed to help you navigate the WorkSafe TAS regulatory changes effective from 1 January 2025

Updated over a year ago

Our team has been working closely with WorkSafe TAS to support the upcoming regulatory changes (NIDS 8.1), which will come into effect from 1 January 2025. This article contains details on the key adjustments that have been implemented for our Tasmanian self-insured clients.

Key system updates include:

  • Updates to Gender/Employment/Return to Work Status/Duty Status codes

  • Addition of Capacity for Alternative Work to Med Cert page

  • Ability to capture Secondary Injuries

  • Changes to data included in Submission files

The following information has been created to assist you with any significant system changes. However, not all changes require modification of the SolvInjury platform. We encourage you to become familiar with these adjustments to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Phone Number (C025/026/027)

As per the NIDS Specifications, at least one contact number is required. Improvements have been made to the system validation to visually validate the contact number fields, either Phone (Home), or Phone (Mobile), or Phone (Work), as required. The validation will clear when at least one field has a value entered.

Employment Status (C033)

The Employment Type codes have been updated and include two new values (08 - Volunteer, and 10 - Visa Worker). The data field can be found in the Employment Details section of the Claim Data page.

Medical Certificate - Alternative Work (C085)

An additional capacity code has been added to record a worker's fitness for work accurately. When adding a medical certificate to a record you will now see a "Capacity for alternative work" checkbox appear if either the "Fit for restricted return to work" or "Fit for permanently modified duties" options are selected within the Capacity for Work section.


Payments

To accommodate the WorkSafe TAS regulatory update (NIDS 8.1) changes to some payment types are available in the system.

Independent Medical Reviews Payment Type (C100)

A new payment type is available to capture Independent Medical Reviews (18 - Independent Medical Review). This payment type is linked to the Investigation estimate bucket.

When adding a new payment, you can select Independent Medical Reviews from Type dropdown in the Line Item Details section;

Vocational Rehabilitation Payments (C111)

To accommodate changes to the conditions for Vocational Rehabilitation payment types, when adding this type of payment, certain conditions will prompt you to select the Rehab Provider details via the Rehab Provider drop-down list. This field is located in the Invoice Details section when adding a new payment, underneath the Creditor field;

This list of Rehab Provider codes is stored in our database and is compiled from the List of Accredited WRPs listed on the WorkSafe TAS website.

The Rehab provider field will become mandatory if any of the following conditions are met when adding a payment;

  • IF Payment Type equals 08 (Vocational Rehabilitation Payment) AND Service Code is (WRP001-WRP007) then a valid WRP Provider from the List must be selected when saving.

  • IF Payment Type = 08 (Vocational Rehabilitation Payment) AND Service Date >= 1 July 2024 AND Service Code is NOT (WRP001-WRP007) then the Provider Number will be stored as 000000 for submitting


Secondary Injuries (C132)

Changes to the WorkSafe TAS regulations (NIDS 8.1) introduces a requirement to record Secondary Injuries, where applicable. This functionality is available on the Secondary Injuries page, accessed via the Claim Management tab within a record.
