Managing performance reviews for your team

A performance review cycle follows a structured workflow which consists of selecting and approving peer nominations, completing reviews across different review types (self, manager, peer, and upward), and finally, publishing feedback. As a manager, you’ll be assigned tasks which you’ll need to complete and submit before the cycle is closed.

This guide walks you through each step of that process, including how to find your assigned tasks, approve peer nominations for your direct reports, complete and submit reviews, and view feedback once it's been shared.

As a manager, you'll complete the same review tasks as any participant, plus additional responsibilities covered in this guide.

Selecting peer nominees

Depending on how the cycle is configured, when a performance cycle includes peer reviews, either you or your direct report will nominate the reviewers. There will be a minimum and maximum number of peers that can be selected.

To select peer nominations for your direct report, follow these steps:

  1. Click My tasks in the main menu on the left side.

  2. Search for the relevant performance cycle under which you’ll see a Select peer reviewers task beside your direct report’s name.

  3. Click Nominate peers.

  4. Using the dropdown menu, search for and select peer nominees.

  5. When ready, click Confirm selection.

Approving peer nominations

Managers must approve peer nominations made by their direct reports. You’ll see the task for approval appear in My tasks, and under Your review tasks in Performance. When ready, click Approve peer selection.

Changing a peer nomination

To change a direct report’s peer nomination, follow these steps:

  1. Click Peer nominations in the left side menu.

  2. Click X beside the nominee’s name to remove them.

  3. Search for another employee using the search bar.

  4. Select an employee by clicking their name.

  5. Click Approve peer selection.

Peer nomination deadlines

Peer nominations have their own deadline, separate from the review deadline. It’s the first deadline in a review cycle to give enough time for nominations to be selected and approved (if required).

Viewing performance reviews

To access review packets, click Performance in the main menu and open the specific cycle. You will see review packets for your direct reports and any others you’ve been assigned listed on this page, along with their progress and previous rating.

Different review types

  • Self review: when you provide feedback about yourself.

  • Peer review: when you provide feedback about a colleague.

  • Manager review: when you provide feedback to your direct report.

  • Upward review: when you provide feedback about your manager.

Submitting a review

There are two ways to view your assigned reviews and provide manager feedback, either through the My tasks or Performance sections.

Note: Once submitted, you cannot reopen and edit your feedback unless changes are requested by an admin.

Submitting reviews in Performance

To access review packets, click Performance in the main menu and open the specific cycle. Any reviews or peer nominations that you need to complete will be listed under Your review tasks.

To submit feedback, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a specific employee’s review packet to open it.

  2. Depending on your visibility and the cycle’s configuration settings, you will either see a list of different reviews on the left side for the employee, or the page will redirect to the manager review.

  3. Fill out all required fields and ratings.

  4. Click Submit review when ready. Otherwise your answers will be saved in draft mode.

Submitting reviews in My tasks

You can also access these reviews to submit feedback in My tasks.

Requesting changes to submitted feedback

To ask a reviewer to edit their feedback, open the review and click Request changes in the top-right corner. The review will reappear in the reviewer’s My tasks section. They will need to re-submit the review after making changes.

Making changes to your feedback

If asked to make changes to the feedback you’ve provided, you’ll see the review reappear for editing in My tasks. You’ll need to re-submit the review after making changes.
