Unlimited Time Off

How to setup and manage Unlimited PTO policies

Updated over a week ago

Humaans supports Unlimited PTO policies to allow you to offer employees freedom in time off and vacation booking while also keeping track of usage for compliance.

Enabling unlimited time off in the Types section

If you want to create/edit a type to include unlimited time off, follow these steps:

  • In the Home menu, click Settings, then click Time away.

  • Select Types. Choose an existing type, or create a new type. For more, see Managing time away types.

  • With limited allocation selected, click Unlimited time off.

  • Once activated, a number of fields are locked when Unlimited time off is active. Carryover, usage and usage period lock in an unlimited policy, as they are no longer applicable.

  • Select a calendar year and allowance. This will allow you to track PTO accrual for legal and compliance reasons (to payout at the end of a contract for example).

  • You can also still choose what balances to show to employees. If you select End of year balance employees will only see an unlimited balance of days available.

As a note, changing the time away type to include unlimited time off will not affect the versions of that type that have been added to PTO policies previously. This will act as a default setting when adding the type to policies in the future.

Enabling unlimited time off in an active PTO policy

You can also edit a type to unlimited time off within a policy.

Please note! editing a PTO policy will backdate the changes from the time the PTO policy was enabled. We only recommend editing a PTO policy when there was a mistake in the original formatting of the policy. Otherwise, we recommend creating a new policy.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • In the Home menu, click Settings, then click Time away.

  • in Policies, click Edit on the policy you wish to access.

  • Click the type you wish to edit.
