Booking and approving time away in Slack

Using our Slack integration, employees can book time away and managers can approve or decline these requests.

Before you begin

Ensure that you’ve enabled your Slack integration with Humaans. These steps are covered in our guide, Enabling Slack's integration with Humaans.

Note: If you have an existing Slack integration, you’ll need to reconnect it to enable these features. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open Integrations in the left-side main menu.

  2. Under All integrations, scroll down to find Slack.

  3. Click Configure to check your configuration.

  4. If prompted, select Update and reconnect integration.

Using commands for Humaans in Slack

You can access a range of commands for Humaans directly in Slack. To do this type /humaans, or click / (Run shortcut) in the toolbar, followed by clicking humaans.

These are the commands for Humaans available on Slack:

  • Use /humaans to list available actions for booking time away, viewing who's away, and more.

  • Use /humaans book to book time away.

  • Use /humaans whosaway to view who's away on that day.

  • Use /humaans help to see a list of these commands within Slack.

Booking time away from Slack

To book time away in Slack follow these steps:

  1. Open a Slack channel and type /humaans book into the text box, followed by pressing Enter on your keyboard.

  2. Fill out all necessary fields for your time away request, including Reason, Start date, End date (Optional), Away, Reason, and Note.

  3. When you're ready, click Book time away.

  4. If enabled, you’ll receive a Slack notification confirming your booking details.

Approving time away in Slack

Managers can approve employee time away requests in Slack by clicking Approve or Decline on the request. They will receive a notification informing them of the request. They can check the request in Humaans found in the sidebar under Apps.

The request will include the time away type, the date, the duration, the employee’s time away balance, and the status of the request.
