Task details not visible when target object link is clicked instead of Task title

This article explains that users may not see task details if they click the task’s target object link instead of the task title link, and clarifies that only the task title link provides full task access based on permissions.

When a user is assigned to a task but cannot see any task details, it is often due to clicking the target object link within the task card instead of the task title link. The target object can be a label, control, request, etc.

Issue overview

Each task card includes two separate links:

  • A target object link (at the top), which points to the "target object"

  • A task title link, which points to the specific task instance

If a user clicks the target object link and does not have access to the associated target object, they will see a restricted view with no task details. This can create the false impression that the user is not assigned to the task.

Expected behavior

Clicking the task title link opens the full task details, assuming the user is properly assigned. This view includes the task description, list of assigned members, and any instructions or deadlines.

Steps to resolve:

  1. Locate the relevant task card.

  2. Do not click the target object link at the top of the card.

  3. Instead, click the task title link

  4. Confirm that the task view displays all expected information.

Why this matters

The target object has its own permission model. Users without access to the target object will see a limited view when clicking its link. By clicking the task title directly, users can access the task details they are authorized to view.

This is expected system behavior and is working as designed. Users should always click the Task link when trying to access task details.
