Having trouble importing your file? Make sure to review these common issues to ensure you're getting the best match rate:
Import Types
Create a Contact Import - Insert new records, or update existing records in your database.
Create a Tag Import - Tag the individuals in the imported file. Tags can be applied by values in columns of the import, or applied to all of the records in the import.
Import Columns by Type
UID Columns Required
UID (ex. 123456789, this is a unique identifier to i360)
State (ex. 'MD', not 'Maryland')
State Voter ID Columns Required
Voter ID (ex. 91837596)
State will be provided from a drop-down when importing
Matching Fields Columns Required
First Name
Last Name
ZIP (one of these - this is recommended)
Phone (one of these)
Full Address (one of these)
Email (one of these)
Best Practices
Save as .CSV or .XLSX
The preferred file type option to upload is .csv, but .xlsx will also work. If you are running into issues with another file format, we recommend changing it to this.
Note: If importing a file that originated from an i360 Export, make sure you're importing the .csv within, not the .zip file that it comes from. .ZIP is not a compatible format for the import tool.
Check for Spelling and Punctuation
In a matching fields import, correct spelling and punctuation is crucial to prevent duplicates in your database. Make sure that the individual's name is spelled correctly, along with their address, and any other information you're including.
Eliminate Special Characters
Special characters (!@#$%^&*, etc.) in your document can prevent the upload process altogether. Ensure that there are no special characters in your file, especially in column headers. (ex. Apt. '#')
Remove Unnecessary Columns
If there are columns within your file that are not relevant to the upload (ex. notes, additional tags, blank columns), remove them. Excess columns can increase wait time and potentially halt the upload.
Remove File Formatting
It's possible that there may be hidden formatting within your file if it came from another source. If your upload fails, we recommend copying and pasting your file as text into a new Excel document. This should remove any background formatting.
Remove Additional Sheet Tabs
Files should only include 1 sheet tab. If there are additional tabs on your file, it is unlikely that the import will go through successfully.
Split Up Your File for Tagging
If you are importing a file with thousands of individuals and several tags, you may need to split the file up for import. We recommend splitting your file up in the following ways:
Under 25,000 records - we recommend no more than 25 at a time
25,000 records - no more than 20 tag categories
50,000 records - no more than 15 tag categories
100,000+ records - no more than 10 tag categories
