Email Validation is one of the
iClosed Data Intelligence feature that verifies whether an email address entered on the form is real as soon as it is submitted.
It acts as the first qualification checkpoint, preventing fake, disposable, or risky email addresses from entering your funnel, unless the phone number is set as the primary contact field on the form.
Important note
Email validation can be turned on by the account owner only.
Each lookup consumes 0.5 credits
How Does It Work
Email Validation evaluates key signals including deliverability status, domain type, role-based or disposable indicators, toxicity risk, and an overall confidence score.
The validation runs a comprehensive lookup and provides the following feedback on entry:
Email validity and format
Email type (Main email, Temporary or Shared inbox)
Deliverability confidence
Email Toxicity as per score received
By validating email deliverability and quality early, iClosed helps you stop unqualified leads before they progress or book a call, while also saving credits by skipping costlier steps such as Credit Score checks when an email is invalid.
Logic
Email Validation confirms whether a lead’s email address is real and reachable by performing a comprehensive email lookup.
If the email is returned as invalid or risky, iClosed will skip downstream steps such as Credit Score checks to save credits.

The validation runs immediately when an email is entered and provides the following feedback:
Email format and existence check - iClosed first verifies whether the email address is syntactically valid and exists. This step is mandatory for both validation modes.
Deliverability and quality evaluation - Once the email format is valid, iClosed evaluates deliverability and quality signals, including:
Deliverable vs. undeliverable status
Disposable or temporary email detection
Role-based mailbox detection (e.g. info@, sales@)
Domain type (free, corporate, accept-all)
Toxicity risk indicators
Confidence score assessment - Each email is assigned a confidence score from 0 to 100, representing the likelihood that the email is valid and safe to use.
A score below 50 is considered invalid by default.
This baseline rule is visible to customers and can be used in qualification logic.
In short, Email Validation feature prevents a lead from passing through the form until a valid email address is provided:
Email format must be valid
Confidence score must be 50 or higher
Disposable or high-risk emails are blocked
The rate limit is set to 5 attempts per IP.
After 5 failed attempts, iClosed will block further validation, mark lead as potential (unqualified) and skip any email or/and Credit Score check after.
Lookup Terms
Every email address entered or edited is treated as a new lookup.
Validation for Emails which are in your
Global Data and were validated already won't be validated again - won't count against your credit usage. Email Validation can be used for:
Lead qualification (disqualification or conditional routing)
As a precondition for Enrichment and Credit Score checks
After a lead from the same IP attempts to pass through Email Validation 5 (five) times, email validation will stop to prevent additional costs, including Enrichment and Credit Score checks, and the lead will be marked as potential.
Results:
Reduces time spent following up on invalid, undeliverable, or fake email addresses.
Improves email outreach performance by identifying deliverable emails and filtering out disposable or role-based addresses.
Improves lead quality by filtering out leads with disposable emails, role-based mailboxes, low confidence scores, or high toxicity risk.
Better spam prevention, as users attempting to repeatedly submit fake or temporary email addresses are stopped immediately.
Pro tips
As email validation is one of the pre-conditions for Credit Score check, iClosed will skip the Credit Score check if the email was returned as invalid to prevent spending of the wallet credits.

Can I re-validate emails that were collected by iClosed before validation was turned on?
Can I re-validate emails that were collected by iClosed before validation was turned on?
No, that isn't available as a specific feature.
What you can do as a workaround is to copy email of a lead and try to enter it again on the form where Email Validation is turned on.
In case you decided to do this, it's advisable to use event specifically made for your appointment setters to use, or for this purpose only, to avoid messing up the data in your main events embedded in your funnel.
But, take into consideration that you may hit IP rate limit in case you try to validate wrong email more than five times.
From the validation perspective, is it better to have email as primary contact information or phone number?
From the validation perspective, is it better to have email as primary contact information or phone number?
To be fully transparent, there is no right or wrong answer here. The best answer is behind the question on which of these two your leads are more likely to respond back.
If it's an email, rather than phone number, you should collect email first and while doing so, to validate every email entered.
