What are Content ID and PRO tags?

Our music library offers a wide selection of tracks, some of which come with Content ID and P.R.O tags. Any track that has restrictions will be marked with the corresponding label:

Content ID tag

This track is registered with YouTube’s Content ID system. That means YouTube checks videos against a copyright database, and if it finds a match with this track, a copyright notice might pop up.

When that happens, the copyright owner can choose to:

  • Do nothing and just leave the claim there

  • Track how the video performs

  • Run ads on the video to earn revenue

  • Mute the part of the audio that matches their music

  • Or block the video entirely

If you’re using the track for non-commercial purposes, check out how Content ID works. You can also dispute the claim using the license we provide.

Planning to use this track in a monetized YouTube video or for commercial use? Just reach out to our support team so we can help you get the right license.

No worries—aside from YouTube, most platforms don’t have any issues with Content ID tracks.

P.R.O. tag

This tag means you’ll need the author’s permission if you want to use the track in public spaces like supermarkets, restaurants, theaters, or if you're planning to broadcast it on TV or radio. Buying a track with a P.R.O. tag doesn’t include performance rights as part of your Icons8 license.

Need that kind of permission? Get in touch with us, and we'll help!

If you’re not using the track on TV, radio, or in public venues, you don’t need to worry about extra P.R.O. licenses or fees. But if you’re planning to use it for any other commercial project, make sure you purchase the track or the right license first.
