Introduction

Construction Visualisation Styles (CVS) involves applying dynamic styles or animations, such as movement, growth, and swiping, along with color changes to BIM elements during their construction and/or deconstruction phases. This enhances task methodologies through clear, real-time visual feedback.

Construction Visualisation Styles are an extension of the BIM links feature in Tobe Builder. It easily allows the user to set a visualisation style on BIM elements that are linked to a Task.

CVS settings can be accessed via the Task Inspector. In the Task Inspector you will find a section called Visualisation. This will only appear for Task that already have BIM links. The default CVS is applied to all existing BIM links. This is the "dither" style.

How it works

For Tasks that have BIM links, the Visualisation section will appear in the Task Inspector.

Edit - Click to Edit visualisation style

Cancel - Click to Cancel editing if in Edit mode

Apply - Click to Apply current setting

Copy - Click to Copy CVS settings

Paste - Click to paste CVS settings on currently selected Task. Only becomes clickable if CVS settings have been copied.

Style Type dropdown - Used to select Style Type

Dither toggle - Turns dither on/off

Colour Effect -

  • Solid: sets mesh colour and overrides any applied materials

  • Tint: adds colour to any applied materials

Preview - Slide to preview current CVS settings from start to finish

Task Duration - Slide to set the required duration of task for visualisation (i.e. if set to 50%, the visualisation will be complete when the 50% of the task duration has elapsed

Shows current values as per transform gizmo in scene window when editing CVS.

Transform is relative to the bounds of the BIM elements linked to the Task

Edit Mode

To edit the CVS for the selected task, click the Edit button in the Visualisation section in the Task Inspector. While editing, an orange border will appear around the Scene Window. Selection of objects in the scene and interaction with other menus will not work until Cancel or Apply is clicked.

Style Types

None

Selecting None applies no animation style to the linked BIM elements. Instead, they will simply appear or disappear based on the construction or deconstruction phase.

Color settings can still be applied, and they will remain visible on the linked BIM elements for the duration of the task.

Construction

The linked BIM elements will instantly appear at the start of the task.

Deconstruction

The linked BIM elements will instantly disappear at the start of the task.

Move

When the Style Type dropdown is set to Move, a world space orb object in the scene will be automatically placed and selected at the center of the linked BIM elements bounds. This serves as the Default Position.

You can manually adjust this object's position using the transform gizmo to set the desired offset for the linked BIM elements to move or from.

As you move the object, the Offset Vector Field will update to reflect the relative offset. You can also manually enter a position or copy and paste values between Offset Vector Fields.

Once the desired offset is set, the linked BIM elements will animate to or from the offset over the specified task duration.

Construction

At the start of the task, the linked BIM elements will begin at the offset position and interpolate to their respective positions in the model over the task duration.

Deconstruction

At the start of the task, the linked BIM elements will begin at their respective positions in the model and interpolate to the offset position over the task duration.

Swipe

When the Style Type dropdown is set to Swipe, a world space arrow object will be automatically placed and selected at the center of the linked BIM elements' bounds. The arrow will initially face North, this serves as the Default Direction.

The direction of the arrow defines an invisible plane that moves through the model over the specified task duration, controlling how the elements appear.

You can manually adjust the arrow's rotation using the transform gizmo to set the desired direction from which the linked BIM elements will appear. As you rotate the arrow object the Direction Vector Field will update to reflect the relative rotation. You can also manually enter a rotation or copy and paste values between Direction Vector Fields.

Once the desired rotation is set, the linked BIM elements will swipe in or out from that direction over the specified task duration.

Construction

The linked BIM elements will swipe in from the specified direction, gradually appearing over the task duration.

Deconstruction

The linked BIM elements will swipe out in the opposite direction, gradually disappearing over the task duration.

Grow

When the Style Type dropdown is set to Grow, a world space orb object will be automatically placed and selected at the center of the linked BIM elements bounds. This serves as the or Default Origin.

You can manually adjust this objects position using the transform gizmo to set the desired origin for the linked BIM elements to scale from or towards.

As you move the object, the Origin Vector Field will update to reflect the relative position. You can also manually enter a position or copy and paste values between Origin Vector Fields.

Once the desired position is set, the linked BIM elements will either grow or shrink from the position.

Construction

The linked BIM elements will start at zero size and gradually scale up to full size (1) over the task duration from the set position.

Deconstruction

The linked BIM elements will start at full size (1) and gradually scale down to zero over the task duration to the set position.

Colour

Users can customize the color of their visualization using one of the following options:

  • Solid: The linked BIM elements will be displayed in the specified color.

  • Tint: The specified color will be applied as a tint over the existing material of the linked BIM elements.

Additionally, the color will interpolate between the Start and End colors based on the current time within the task's duration.

Task Duration

Set the relative time range within the task duration for when the visualization will be played.

For example, in a 4-day task, setting this to 25% means the visualization will occur over 1 day.

Construction

The linked BIM elements will appear and reach completion 1 day after the task starts.

Deconstruction

The linked BIM elements will disappear 1 day after the task starts.

Toggle CVS On/Off

You can toggle animations and colour changes caused by CVS via the Visibility panel in the Scene Window.
