1. Introduction
Configure how time-series data for each instrument type are visualized in GeoSens. You can:
Select which chart series to customize—data columns assigned to each series have been pre-configured at the global level to streamline the workflow.
Control chart types, formats, and display options
Customize series‐level styling (lines, markers, colors)
2. Prerequisites
GeoSens account with Instrument-Admin or System-Admin privileges
Instrument data columns already defined under Instrument Data Columns
3. Navigation
Log in to GeoSens.
In the left menu expand Instrument → click Chart Settings.
4. Page Layout
A. Header Controls
Instrument Type dropdown: select your instrument (e.g. Groundwater Discharge (GWDISC)).
Chart setting dropdown: pick the chart template (e.g. “Flow Rate (L/s) vs Time”).
The selected chart series will appear in the chart series section.
B. Chart Series (Top Section)
Column | Description |
Title | Label shown in the chart legend (e.g. “Flow Rate (L/s)”). |
Type | Visualization type: Line, Area, Bar, etc. |
Series Column | Underlying data field from your instrument’s data columns (e.g. |
Data Format | Number formatting or date/time pattern (e.g. |
Show Legend | ✓ to include this series in the chart legend. |
Show Marker | ✓ to draw a marker at each data point. |
Primary | ✓ to make this the default highlighted series on chart load. |
Is Y | ✓ to map this series to the secondary Y-axis (for dual-axis charts). |
Filters & Sorting
Filtering: Click any funnel icon to filter rows (e.g. Type = Line).
Sorting: Click the header to sort A→Z or Z→A.
Use Create Filter to build and save multi-column queries.
Click on one row of chart series, further section will appear at the bottom series settings section.
C. Series Settings (Bottom Section)
Column | Description |
Instrument Name | Name of the instrument instance (e.g. |
Line Size | Stroke width in pixels for line charts (e.g. |
Line Color | Hex code or color name for the series line (e.g. |
Line Type | Solid, dashed, dotted, etc. |
Line Marker | Symbol shape for data points (circle, square, triangle). |
Show Marker | ✓ to render the marker shape on the line. |
Marker Size | Diameter in pixels for the marker (e.g. |
Marker Color | Fill color for the marker. |
Marker Border Color | Outline color for the marker. |
Marker Border Width | Outline width in pixels. |
Note: If no rows appear under Chart Series Settings, you haven’t yet defined instrument-level styling, and it will use default chart settings. Adding rows here lets you override the global series defaults for specific instruments or site conditions.
5. Editing & Managing Series Settings Tables
If no data is found in the chart series settings, this chart series will be plotted using system default settings. Add & edit new setting to customize the chart by defining its line color, marker size, etc.
Enter Inline-Edit Mode
Click the 'Edit Grid' icon in the top-right of the table.
Table will switch to editable grids.
Add or Modify Entries
Click the '+New' icon in the top-right of the table.
A new chart series setting panel will appear at the right-hand side.
Fill in the necessary fields to complete the creation. Set line size, color, type, marker shape and styling attributes as needed.
Remove Entries
Click to select an existing row in the chart series setting and click on 'Delete' to remove this entry.
Save or Cancel
Save: Click the checkmark icon (✓) in the inline-edit toolbar to persist changes.
Cancel: Click the “×” icon to discard all unsaved edits and revert to read-only mode.
6. Best Practices
Units in Titles: Include units in your Title (e.g. “Discharge (L/s)”) for clarity.
Consistent Formatting: Match Data Format decimal places to your instrument’s precision.
Dual-Axis Usage: Use Is Y sparingly—only when plotting metrics with different units (e.g. flow vs. temperature).
Distinct Colors: Assign contrasting Line Color values for each series to avoid confusion.
Marker Visibility: Enable markers only for sparse data or when exact data-point emphasis is required.
