Using Trench Excavation for Temporary Works Geometry

Trench excavation is a simple and low-cost process used to bury services. However, an open trench can have a significant impact on traffic flow and adjacent activities. Visualizing the full width, shape, batter angles, and benching required prior to excavation can help to optimize the program and minimize disruption.

Using the Trench Tool

The trench tool automates the process of creating a standard battered trench. The inputs that are used to calculate the trench width at ground level include the trench width at the floor and depth, as well as the batter angle. Additionally, layers can be visualized to assist with multi-layer excavation.

Using the Bench Trench Tool

The bench trench tool is used to define a number of benches which may be the safest design solution in certain soil conditions. Users must define the bench depth, width at the base, and the width and height. Additionally, they can define any number of benches and visualize the stages of excavation.
