The web property settings page is used to view, add or remove URL-prefix web properties.
In this guide we will explain how to use the web property settings page to:
View the project’s monitoring metrics
View web properties for a project
Add web properties to a project
Remove web properties from a project
Exclude mapping pages to a web property
What is a web property?
To manage web properties, we need to explain what they are.
A website or web property represents a website, subdomain or subdirectory that can be managed in your Google Search Console account.
A website property contains all the pages that share the URL structure.
There are two types of web property:
Domain property: A root domain or subdomain property without a protocol or directory.
URL prefix property: A property containing the protocol (https) and URL string (/blog).
If you head over to your Google Search Console account you can search and view these two types of website properties.
What is the web property settings?
The web properties settings page is where you can:
View the project’s monitoring metrics
View web properties for a project
Add web properties to a project
Remove web properties from a project
Exclude mapping pages to a web property
View project settings
At the top of the web properties page you can view the project monitoring metrics.
These metrics can help you understand the project’s monitoring health. And can be quickly used to diagnose issues with the tool.
For further details about each metric please read the following guides:
View web properties
The web properties page shows a list of the web properties for the monitored website.
The list of web properties will include both domain properties and URL prefix properties for the root domain of the website you are monitoring.
For each web property listed you will see:
Include: Whether the web property can included or excluded.
Type: Type of web property based on Google Search Console’s API.
Web Property URL: Exact web property URL added to Google Search Console.
Inspection URLs: Total URLs mapped to the web property and being monitored.
Inspection Cycle: umber of days it will take to monitor all the inspection URLs.
Add web properties
From the web properties settings page you can add web properties to your project.
All you need to do is navigate to the add web property page by clicking on the “+Add property” button.
This will take you to the Manually add web properties page.
Any web properties you add to Indexing Insight will be added to your Google Search Console account.
Remove web properties
As well as adding you can also remove web properties from the project.
All you need to do is click on the “remove” button and it will remove the web property from the project. It will take a minute to be removed and the project monitoring metrics will be recalculated.
If you remove a web property from Indexing Insight, it will remove it from your Google Search Console account.
Any URLs mapped to web properties will be moved into the Excluded URL list but will still contribute to your Account URL Limit.
Exclude mapping to web property
Finally, you can exclude mapping to a web property.
This feature is useful if you want to stop Indexing Insight from mapping to a particular web property like the international subdirectories of your website.
By excluding web properties it can help reduce the max inspection cycle of your project.
All you need to do to exclude a web property is:
Identify the web property you want excluded
Change the web property from include to exclude
That’s it! Indexing Insight will automatically save the exclusion and you’ll need to wait for the next day for our tool to take the change into account.
If you remove a web property from Indexing Insight, it will remove it from your Google Search Console account.
Any URLs mapped to web properties will be moved into the Excluded URL list but will still contribute to your Account URL Limit.
