How to use Instant Click?

Preload pages the moment a customer hovers over a link so your store feels instant.

Written by Arsalan Ali

Instant Click preloads links immediately when customers hover over them, so your store feels instantly fast to shoppers. By the time they actually click, the next page has already started loading in the background.

How it works

There is a small but reliable gap between the moment a shopper points at a link and the moment they click it. Instant Click uses that gap: as soon as the cursor rests on a link, the app quietly begins fetching that page. On touch devices, loading starts the instant a finger touches the screen, before it lifts.

The result is that browsing between collections and product pages feels immediate, which keeps shoppers moving through your store instead of waiting on it.

Turn Instant Click on

  • In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → AI SEO App.

  • Select Instant Click in the app menu — or open Speed Optimization and click Configure on the Instant Speed card (Instant Click).

  • Enable the feature. The status badge at the top of the page changes to Enabled.

No theme code changes are needed, and you can switch it off again at any time from the same screen.

Check that it is working

  • Open your storefront in a new tab.

  • Hover over a collection or product link for a moment, then click it.

  • The page should appear noticeably faster than before — often with no visible loading step at all.

Good to know

  • Instant Click speeds up navigation between pages. To speed up the first page a visitor lands on, use Image Optimization and Preload Key Theme Assets.

  • Preloading only starts on hover or touch, so it does not waste bandwidth loading pages nobody looks at.

  • Because it affects perceived speed rather than the measured load of a single page, its benefit shows up in how your store feels, and in shoppers viewing more pages per visit.
