The TELUS Collaborative Health Record (CHR) is a robust web-based application that requires a reliable broadband Internet connection, the Chrome web browser, and a few other requirements.

Component

Requirement

Web browser

⚠️ Important: To ensure the security of the CHR, Google Chrome is the only recommended and supported web browser. Using a different browser can result in sections of the CHR not loading, as well as validation errors that prevent you from using the CHR to its full capabilities.

High speed internet

  • Minimum: 10Mbps upload and 15 Mbps download

  • Recommended: 10+Mbps upload/download per user (e.g. if 10 users are engaging in video visits concurrently, a minimum of 100Mbps is recommended).

💡 Tip: Visit www.speedtest.net while using your clinic’s Internet connection to verify the speed of your Internet. If your clinic primarily connects via a WiFi connection, check your speed in various places throughout the clinic to ensure stable Internet connectivity.

If using tablets for capturing patient data, a secure reliable Wi-Fi network is required or a reliable cellular data connection (3G/4G/LTE).

Memory

  • Minimum: 8GB RAM

  • Recommended: 16GB RAM or more

📌 Note: If you're running the CHR on a computer with less than 8GB RAM, we recommend:

  • Closing all non-essential browser tabs

  • Keeping the number of applications running to a minimum

  • Restarting your computer at least once a week

Screen size

  • Minimum: 13 in.

  • Recommended: 24 in. or larger

  • Tablets are not recommended for using the CHR, but can be used for the Point of Care (POC) or Intake app. For more information, see "Devices to collect patient data" below.

Mac workstation

  • OS X Sierra 10.12 or later

Windows workstation

  • Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or later

  • Intel Pentium 4 processor or later, that is SSE2 capable

  • Servers require Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows Server 2016

Printer

  • Any printer that is supported by your computer’s operating system should work with the TELUS CHR

Label printer

Brother QL-810W (Windows only)

Dymo LabelWriter 450 or 550

Zebra GK420D

  • Use labels with minimum dimensions of 1" x 2 1/8"

  • You must install the Zebra Setup Utility that came with your printer and Zebra’s Browser Print application (see Setting up your Zebra label printer)

Swipe card reader (Ontario)

  • The magnetic card reader must be a Keyboard Emulation type. (HID Interface card readers are another type, and do not work).

  • TELUS Health has tested and confirmed compatibility with the following card reader models:

- MagTek 21073062

- Unitech MS246

- ID Tech IDMB-334133B

Firewall ports

  • 80 (HTTP) TCP, outbound

  • 443 (SSL), TCP, outbound

  • 5938 (TeamViewer), TCP, outbound (optional but recommended)

If you are using remote pushing of questionnaires to a fixed kiosk, these additional ports must be available for Apple Push Notifications (APNs):

  • TCP port 5223 (used by devices to communicate to the APN servers)

  • TCP port 2195 (used to send notifications to the APNs)

  • TCP port 2196 (used by the APNs feedback service)

  • TCP port 443 (used as a fallback on Wi-Fi only, when devices are unable to communicate to APNs via port 5223)

Devices to collect patient data (e.g. used to fill out Qnaires)

We recommend using modern devices, and ideally Apple devices. Generally, most devices released from 2019 or later will function smoothly using the CHR.

For clinics (using the Point of Care app):

  • iPad 2nd generation and later

  • iPad mini

  • Any tablet as long as the web app version of the POC is used (i.e. access the POC web app from a browser on the tablet)

For patients:

  • iPhone 3GS and later

  • iPad 2nd generation and later

  • iPad Mini

  • Android Gingerbread 2.3.0 and later

  • Windows Phone 7 OS and later

  • BlackBerry OS10 and later

If you have any further questions about a specific device or model, contact the TELUS Health implementation or support team (see Contact us).
