Mapping lab synonyms
Updated over a week ago

Lab results are often named slightly differently depending on the electronic lab distributor they are received from (e.g Hemoglobin, Haemoglobin, Hb). The CHR uses a built-in lab synonym mapping that has been validated by expert clinicians. This mapping ensures standardization and allows lab tests to be graphed together regardless of their names or group headings. It also future-proofs the CHR as new lab test names are released.

The global lab synonym list uses the long form name in many cases. When you add lab result variables to a template or manually enter lab results, type the long form name of the lab result instead of the short name or abbreviation. e.g. Type Hemoglobin instead of Hb to find the lab test.

📌 Note: To ensure consistency and accuracy and streamline maintenance, you cannot add your own common lab test name to the list.

If a lab distributor uses a new lab result name that the CHR doesn't recognize, or if an existing lab result test name is not on the global lab synonym list, the lab results will not trend together. If this happens, contact the TELUS Health support team through the support chat and we can investigate the issue. If it is a new lab result name, we will log a ticket to add it to the global synonym list and map it to the appropriate lab result name. All lab test result names are reviewed by our clinical experts.
