Can I hide the Instaproofs URL from my clients?

Through the use of a custom CNAME record you can direct your clients to your galleries via your own website address instead of your instaproofs.com address. For example, instead of telling your clients to visit http://mysite.instaproofs.com to view their galleries you can tell them to visit http://proofs.yourwebsite.com instead.

Step 1: Set up the CNAME Record

To get started, contact your domain registrar (godaddy, namecheap, tucows, etc.) and ask the following question: "How can I set up a CNAME record that points http://proofs.mywebsite.com to http://mysite.instaproofs.com?" (swap out the "mywebsite.com" and "mysite" values with your own).

Since each domain registrar will have a different way of doing this, follow their specific instructions for setting the CNAME up through your account with them.

Step 2: Wait 24 Hours

Once you have the CNAME record setup and in place through your domain registrar, wait 24 hours for the settings to fully propagate throughout the Internet.

Step 3: Update your Storefront Alias

After the 24 hours have elapsed, head into the account details page within your Instaproofs account and put the new CNAME address (the custom "http://proofs.mywebsite.com" address) into the "Storefront Alias" setting, and then save your changes.

And that should do it! One the three steps outlined above are complete you can then begin pointing your clients to the new alias (CNAME) address instead of giving them your instaproofs.com address.

A Quick Note

Because our galleries are served through a secure (https) connection, the browser's address bar cannot show your alias after your clients have reached the storefront and are browsing through their photos. You can send them to your storefront using the custom alias address (in your emails, via word-of -mouth, etc.), but regardless of which address they use to get to the site the URL will automatically change to the http://mysite.instaproofs.com within their address bar once they reach the storefront. The vast majority of internet users do not pay any attention to the address bar after reaching the site that they are visiting, so this automatic address change should have no impact on you or your clients.
