Rise.ai's Gift Card Fulfillment Process and Settings
By default, Rise automatically fulfills any gift card order that passes both the Rise and Shopify fraud detection processes (to learn more about them, click here). Once a gift card is fulfilled on Rise's end, the system calls Shopify to fulfill it on their end as well.
Rise.ai’s fulfillment settings provide you with greater control over when and how gift card orders are fulfilled and delivered. This is especially useful when using external fraud detection tools.
These settings are designed to help you manage common challenges, such as fraud risk and order processing delays.
Note: if you are using a 3rd party fraud detection tool, we always recommend testing the different scenarios, to ensure both systems' processes are aligned.
Delayed Fulfillment (Time base hold)
This setting allows you to delay the fulfillment of gift cards for a defined period of time after payment is completed. The delay provides additional time for fraud detection tools to assess the order before the gift card is issued.
This option is especially helpful when using third-party fraud detection apps that require a brief window post-payment to complete their risk analysis.
Once a custom delay period is set, gift card fulfillment will be paused accordingly. If no risk is detected during that time, the gift card will be fulfilled automatically once the delay period ends.
To check the status of a gift card that hasn’t been fulfilled yet, go to Gift Cards > Pending Gift Cards in your dashboard. Under the Status column, you’ll see the label “Delayed fulfillment”.
Once the delay period has ended and no fraud risk is detected, the gift card will be fulfilled automatically. The status will update to 'Fulfilled', and the gift card will appear under the 'Gift Card Sales' tab.
Manual Fulfillment
The Manual Fulfillment option allows you to override Rise’s default automatic fulfillment settings, giving you complete control over when gift cards are fulfilled.
Fulfillment can be triggered manually from the Rise dashboard or programmatically via API (note that API activity is available only on the Enterprise plan).
This option is particularly useful when using third-party fraud detection tools that require order approval before fulfillment. It’s also recommended when working with third-party fulfillment apps, especially in cases where early gift card fulfillment could create issues with mixed-cart orders.
To check the status of a gift card that hasn’t been fulfilled, go to Gift Cards > Pending Gift Cards in your dashboard. Under the Status column, you’ll see the label "Manual Fulfillment".
Click the arrow to the right to open the option to either Create or Decline the gift card.
If the gift card is fulfilled, either manually or via API, the status will update to 'Fulfilled', and the gift card will appear under the 'Gift Card Sales' tab.
Changing the Fulfillment Setting
By default, there is no delay. Gift card orders that do not trigger any fraud alerts as per the fraud detection processes, are automatically fulfilled after the order is paid.
