What causes gift cards to be in 'Pending' status
Gift cards will be Pending if they were not auto-fulfilled by Rise.ai.
There are two possible expected reasons for a gift card to not be auto-fulfilled:
If the order made to buy that gift card was identified in the fraud-detection process.
If for some reason, you have the 'Auto-fulfill' option off.
This means you need to review the order, check if it is safe to fulfill, and then fulfill the gift card manually.
How Rise prevents gift card fraud and manages pending payments
Rise uses both Shopify’s native algorithms and our internal fraud prevention tools to stop fraudulent gift cards from being sent.
When a gift card purchase is flagged as a fraud risk by either us or Shopify, or if the payment is still pending, the order will not be fulfilled, and the gift card will not be sent to the customer.
In cases when an order is identified during the fraud detection process, the gift card will be marked as a Fraud Risk and will appear in the Pending Gift Cards section.
This will allow your team to review the order and decide whether to approve and send the gift card, or not. Approving the gift card means manually fulfilling it.
Once the vetting process is complete, click the “Fulfill” button to send the gift card to the recipient.
Note that Rise's fraud protection system will flag any gift card orders purchased with another gift card or a discount code as potential fraud.
How to Fulfill or Decline the Gift Card marked as Fraud
Go to your Rise dashboard → Pending Gift Cards.
Search for the relevant Gift Card on Pending section and click on Review
Here, you can choose to either create the gift card or decline the order.
If you choose Create Gift Card, the gift card will be sent to the customer. If you choose Decline Gift Card, it will be moved to the Declined tab -
Integrations with your fraud prevention system
Rise seamlessly integrates with your store's anti-fraud services, including Shopify’s anti-fraud native tool using the fraud risk score these integrations use.
Our anti-fraud tool is automatically enabled for all users to ensure comprehensive security and peace of mind.
Fraud Notifications
When the system detects an order with a potential fraud risk, an email will be sent to the email address associated with the store owner.
This email will alert you that an order has been flagged as a potential fraud risk and requires further investigation. Such orders will need to be manually reviewed and fulfilled to ensure their validity.
The emails will be sent from 'gifts@mail.rise-ai.com', with the subject line: "A gift card order was flagged as potential fraud".
The following is an example of a fraud email:
The notification email will provide the following information:
Order Number: The order flagged as having a potential fraud risk.
Customer Email: The email address of the customer associated with the order.
Reason for Fraud: The reason the order was flagged as a potential fraud risk.
Date Detected: The date and time the fraud risk was identified.
This information will help you investigate and determine the next steps for processing the flagged order.
