In this article, you'll learn:

How In-person touchpoints work

Many people browse your store without making a purchase or sharing their details. An in-person touchpoint gives you a way to connect with them while they explore, try something on, or take part in an event.

Shoppers scan a QR code, open a branded page, and share their email to receive store credit. The invitation can be simple, or it can include an interaction such as a quick question, feedback request, or vote.

A touchpoint connects a branded page, email capture, and a store credit reward. The goal is to identify shoppers who are already engaging with your brand and give them a reason to return.

For example, a fitting-room QR code can invite shoppers to share how an item fits in exchange for store credit. This helps you collect feedback, capture their email, and encourage a future purchase, even if they do not buy the item they tried on.

Shoppers use their own phone and do not need to make a purchase or ask a staff member to issue the reward. If they already have a Rise wallet, the credit is added to it. If not, Rise creates one for them.

In-person touchpoints help you:

  1. Turn anonymous foot traffic into identified customers. Connect an in-store interaction to a customer you can recognize.

  2. Give shoppers a reason to return. Reward the interaction with store credit they can spend with your brand.

  3. Stay connected through their wallet pass. The email they receive with their initial credit includes a link to download the pass. Once it is on their phone, you can reach them through supported wallet-pass notifications.

Before you start, please note:

  • Touchpoints are available only to Shopify merchants.

  • Setup takes place in the Rise agent.

  • A POS system is not required for shoppers to participate, so touchpoints can also be used at pop-ups, events, or other physical locations.

  • Think about where shoppers will see the QR code and what invitation would feel natural in that moment.

  • The experience can be simple. Collecting an email and offering store credit may be enough.

  • Make the credit offer clear so shoppers understand what they will receive.

How to choose a touchpoint for your store

Choose from pre-made touchpoint ideas such as Welcome, Refer a friend, True to size?, Complete the survey, follow on social, or create your own.

Each touchpoint helps you identify shoppers and connect them to store credit. Some touchpoints can also help you collect feedback, encourage referrals, or grow your social audience.

Referral touchpoints: Sharing or receiving a referral link does not automatically earn the referrer a reward. Referral rewards follow your referral program rules.

Social touchpoints: Make it clear what action earns the credit.

For example, the shopper may receive credit for submitting their email, while following on social remains optional and is not verified.

How to create and promote your touchpoint

  • Choose an idea or describe your own

    • Open the Rise agent and select Turn walk-ins into customers.

    • Choose a pre-made touchpoint idea, or describe your own in the conversation.

  • Review the shopper page

    • The agent creates a branded landing page for your touchpoint. Review the preview and ask for changes in the conversation. Select Customize to make changes, or Looks good as is to continue.

    • Make sure the landing page clearly explains what shoppers need to do and what they will receive. The offer should match the printed invitation.

  • Review the reward

    • Set the Store credit amount and Expiration, then select Continue.

The reward is used when the customer comes back and redeems it toward a purchase. That purchase may also include spending beyond the credit amount.

  • Publish and download the QR asset

    • Review the page and reward together. When you’re ready, select Publish.

    • Publishing activates the workflow and makes the touchpoint live. Once it is live, you can:

      • Select Download QR to download the QR asset and use it in your own printed or digital materials.

      • Select Print to print the QR invitation directly from Rise.

Before printing a full batch, scan a test copy with your phone. Make sure the page opens, the text is readable, and the offer matches the intended reward.

  • Place the invitation

    • Place the QR code where the invitation feels natural, such as an entrance, fitting room, product display, event space, or concert venue.

Use a clear reason to scan, for example: Tell us how it fits and get $10 in store credit.

Keep the QR code easy to reach and scan. Shoppers complete the touchpoint on their own phone, even if a staff member points it out.

How to manage your touchpoints

You can manage your in-store touchpoints under Assets → In-Person Touchpoints in the Rise dashboard.

This page lists your existing touchpoints and lets you manage their status, landing page, reward, and QR code.

From each touchpoint card, you can:

  • View the landing page preview - See how the touchpoint page appears to shoppers.

  • Preview the landing page - Open Landing page → Preview to view the shopper-facing page.

  • Edit the reward - Click the edit icon next to the reward to update the store credit amount or expiration.

  • Rename the touchpoint - Click the edit icon next to the touchpoint name.

  • Activate or deactivate the touchpoint — Use the Active toggle to turn the touchpoint on or off.

  • Print the QR code - Open QR code → Print to print the QR invitation for your store or event.

  • Download the QR code - Open QR code → Download to save the QR asset and use it in your own materials.

What shoppers experience

When shoppers interact with an in-store touchpoint:

  • They scan the QR code with their phone camera.

  • A branded landing page opens with the invitation and credit offer.

  • They enter their email address.

  • If the touchpoint includes a question or activity, they complete it before claiming the credit.

  • Rise checks eligibility and completes any required verification.

  • Eligible shoppers receive the reward in their new or existing Rise wallet.

  • The store credit email includes an option to add the wallet pass to their phone.

To include the wallet pass option, follow the mobile-pass setup and email-button guide, which explains how to create the pass and add download buttons to store credit emails.

How to encourage wallet-pass adoption

The initial credit is the start of the relationship. To help shoppers keep their credit close at hand, set up your mobile pass and add wallet buttons to your store credit emails.

The mobile-pass setup and email-button guide explains how to set up Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes and add the download buttons to your emails.

You can also create a separate pass-install reward to give shoppers another reason to add the pass. For example: “Add your wallet pass and get an extra $10 in store credit.”

Use the Mobile Pass Installed trigger to issue the extra credit after installation.

Once shoppers add the pass, you can reach them on their phones through supported wallet-pass notifications.

This helps you stay connected after they leave the store and remind them to return.

FAQs

Do shoppers need to buy something to participate?

No. Shoppers can share their email and claim the credit without making a purchase, completing any additional interaction you have included in the touchpoint.

Do staff need to use a POS terminal?

No. Shoppers scan the QR code and complete the touchpoint on their own phones. Staff-led POS check-in is a separate flow.

What happens if the shopper already has a Rise wallet?

An eligible reward is added to their existing wallet. They do not need a separate wallet for each touchpoint.

Can I use this at a pop-up?

Yes, the touchpoint does not depend on a POS interaction. Shoppers need an internet connection to open the page and complete the flow. Platform and rollout eligibility still apply.

Is a Rise wallet the same as a wallet pass?

The Rise wallet holds the customer’s store credit. The wallet pass is what they add to their phone. Receiving credit creates or updates the wallet; the customer still needs to add the pass using the link in their email.

Can I create separate QR codes for different locations within one touchpoint?

Not at this time. Each touchpoint has one QR code. We’re working on support for multiple QR codes within the same touchpoint.

Can customers still use their credit after I deactivate a touchpoint?

Yes. Deactivating a touchpoint does not cancel credit that customers have already received. They can continue to use it under its original terms, including any expiration date.
