How is the collection value determined?

  • The collection value is a total calculation of each market price.

    • Market price data comes from Wine Searcher, Wine Market Journal, and user reported data.

    • If you have entered a new market price manually, that will be the price used in the total calculation.

    • When a wine does not have a market value, we include the entered purchase price instead. When the wine does not have a purchase price, we include the average price of a wine in your collection in the total value calculation.

  • Prices from deliveries / transit list are not included in the calculation.

How accurate is the collection value?

  • Pretty accurate, but not exact.

  • The total collection market value accuracy really relies on our data from Wine-Searcher.

  • Wine-Searcher relies on global prices, so it can vary quite a bit. Their prices come from retailers and some have exorbitantly higher prices than others, so we go by an average.

  • We're working on getting more proprietary pricing data for this and hope to make improvements in the future.

Why is the collection value fluctuating?

  • Most commonly this happens from removing high value bottles from your collection. It can also occur if there are any fluctuations in the local currency being used.
