When you drink a bottle, give it away, or need to remove it from your collection for any reason, here's how to do it.
Step 1: Open 'Remove Bottles'
Tap the — Remove button on the home screen. You'll see a search screen where you can find the wine you want to remove.
Step 2: Find Your Wine
Type the wine name into the search bar. Matching wines from your collection will appear. Tap the one you want to remove.
Step 3: Select the Bottles
If you have multiple bottles of this wine, you'll see a list of each individual bottle. Tap to select which ones you're removing — you can select one or several.
Use Select All in the top-right corner to quickly select every bottle of this wine. If you only have one bottle, this step is skipped automatically.
Step 4: Choose a Removal Type
Select the reason you're removing the bottles:
Type | When to Use |
Consumed | You drank the wine — you'll be prompted to leave a tasting review |
Gifted | You gave the bottle to someone |
Sold | You sold the bottle |
Broken | The bottle was damaged |
Expired | The wine has gone past its prime |
Donated | You donated the bottle |
Missing | The bottle can't be found in your cellar |
You can also create custom removal types in your collection settings if the built-in options don't fit your needs.
Step 5: Add Details
Below the removal type, you can optionally set:
Date — When the removal happened (defaults to today)
Notes — Any details you want to remember (e.g., "Shared at anniversary dinner", "Corked — returned to shop")
Tap Confirm when you're ready.
Step 6: Leave a Review (Consumed Bottles)
If you selected Consumed, you'll be offered the chance to leave a tasting review:
Create Review — Write your tasting notes and rate the wine right away
Remind Later — Get a push notification reminder to write the review later
Reviews are shared with the InVintory community and help other collectors discover great wines.
Removing Bottles in Bulk
You can remove multiple bottles at once by selecting several in Step 3. All selected bottles will get the same removal type, date, and notes.
When removing 10 or more bottles at once, you'll be asked to type a confirmation phrase to prevent accidental bulk removals. Any 3D cellar positions for these bottles will be cleared.
Viewing Past Bottles
Removed bottles aren't gone forever. You can find them in the Past Bottles section on the home screen, or tap View all to see your complete removal history.
Each past bottle shows when it was removed, the removal type, and any notes you left. If you removed a bottle by mistake, you can add it back to your collection from the bottle detail screen.
Tips
Use Consumed for tracking — Marking bottles as "Consumed" (not "Deleted") keeps them in your history and lets you track what you've been drinking over time.
Write reviews — Even a quick rating helps. Your Year in Review and analytics are richer when you log tasting notes.
Custom types — If you frequently remove bottles for a specific reason (like "Brought to restaurant" or "Traded"), create a custom removal type in Settings.
Undo mistakes — Check Past Bottles if you accidentally removed something. You can always add it back.
