Contributions to the 2nd Pillar (Pension Fund)

Updated over 2 weeks ago

What is the 2nd pillar?

The 2nd pillar (pension fund) is part of the Swiss retirement system. If you are employed, contributions are automatically deducted from your salary and paid into your pension fund.

Pension fund coverage usually starts:

  • from age 18 (risk coverage for disability and death)

  • from age 25 (retirement savings contributions)

To be insured, your salary must also be above a certain minimum threshold.

Example

You are employed at an industrial company and your salary statement (Lohnausweis) shows contributions to the pension fund (BVG).

Document

On your salary statement (Lohnausweis) under section 10.1, you can see whether contributions to the 2nd pillar were made.
