Plans, Billing, and Cloud Usage in Iris

Every Iris Studio has its own billing plan. Plans are per Studio — each Studio is its own subscription. Organizations are just a way to group Studios together, but subscriptions don't share between Studios or across an Organization.

Updated over a week ago

Your plan determines how many video sources you can add, how many collaborators you can invite, and how much cloud bandwidth is included each month. Local mode (controlling cameras on the same network) is always unlimited and free on every plan.

Understanding Cloud Usage

Cloud Control is the feature that lets you manage cameras and video sources remotely over the internet. Your plan includes a set amount of cloud bandwidth measured in gigabytes (GB) per billing period.

Key points:

  • Only outbound bandwidth through Iris's cloud infrastructure counts toward usage.

  • Local network usage is free and unlimited — it never counts toward your cloud bandwidth.

  • Usage is tracked per Studio, not per account.

  • Included usage resets monthly, even on yearly plans.

What each plan gets you:

  • Free — Get started with one camera, 5 GB of cloud usage per month. When you hit the limit, cloud access switches to local-only mode until the next billing cycle. No overage charges.

  • Standard — Room for 3 cameras and 60 GB of cloud usage. If you go over, you're billed at the overage rate per GB. No interruption to service.

  • Pro — Up to 8 cameras and 250 GB of cloud usage. Lower overage rate than Standard.

  • Enterprise — Custom pricing, sources, usage, and support. Contact the Iris sales team.

Viewing Your Plan and Usage

Go to Settings > Billing to see everything about your current plan. If you have multiple Studios, select the one you want to review.

The Billing page shows:

  • Upcoming Invoice card — Your current plan name, estimated next invoice amount, and billing date. Button to Upgrade/Change Plan.

  • Payment Method card — Your card on file (e.g., "Visa •••• 4242, Exp 12/26"). Click to add or edit via the Stripe billing portal.

  • Cloud Usage section — A progress bar showing GB used vs. included amount. On paid plans, an Overage row appears if you've exceeded your included usage, showing the overage amount and estimated charge.

  • Invoices table — Past invoices with number, plan, date, total, status (Paid, Open, Upcoming, Cancelled), and a link to view or download each one.

  • Plan change banner — If you have a pending downgrade, a banner shows the effective date and estimated next payment.

The billing page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds and also refreshes when you return to the app window.

What Happens as You Approach Your Limit

At 75% Usage

A warning notification appears: "Cloud usage is nearing the limit." It tells you how much you've used and your total included limit. Cloud access continues normally — this is just a heads-up.

At 100% Usage — Plans WITHOUT Overages (Free)

A notification appears: "Cloud usage is disabled." The system automatically switches all your devices to local-only mode. Local control continues to work normally. To restore cloud access, upgrade your plan or wait for the next billing cycle.

The Cloud Usage progress bar turns red with an "Upgrade Now" button.

At 100% Usage — Plans WITH Overages (Standard, Pro)

Cloud access continues uninterrupted. Additional usage is billed at your plan's overage rate per GB. The overage amount and estimated charge appear in the Overage row on the Billing page.

Changing Your Plan

Upgrading

  1. On the Billing page, click Upgrade Plan (Free) or Change Plan (paid).

  2. The "Choose Your Studio Plan" dialog shows all available plans.

  3. Use the Monthly / Yearly toggle to switch billing frequencies.

  4. Each plan card shows: price, max sources, included cloud usage, overage rate, and features.

  5. Click the plan you want. If upgrading to paid for the first time, you'll be redirected to Stripe's secure checkout for payment details.

  6. After success: "Plan Successfully Changed" notification appears.

Upgrades take effect immediately.

For Enterprise, click "Contact Sales." After confirming, the Iris team will reach out with custom pricing.

Downgrading

  1. On the Billing page, click Change Plan.

  2. Select a lower-tier plan.

  3. Confirm via Stripe.

Downgrades don't take effect immediately — your current plan stays active until the end of the billing period. A banner on the Billing page shows: "Your plan will be changed on [date]. Your next estimated payment will be $X.XX."

Cancelling

There's no separate "cancel" action. To stop paying, downgrade to the Free plan. Your paid plan remains active until the end of the current billing cycle, then switches to Free.

If you want to delete your account entirely, go to Account Settings > Profile > Delete Account.

Managing Your Payment Method

On the Billing page, click Add or Edit on the Payment Method card. This opens the Stripe billing portal in your browser where you can manage your payment details.

A credit card must be on file for any paid plan. Even if a promo code covers the full cost, a card is required for potential overage charges.

To remove your payment method, you must first downgrade to the Free plan.

Past Invoices

Scroll down on the Billing page to the Invoices table. Each invoice shows the plan, date, total, status, and a link to view or download it.

Usage Examples

Small team, Standard plan:

  • 2 sources, 3 users, 4 productions per month, 60 minutes each

  • Approximate usage: ~59 GB — within the 60 GB included, no overage

Large team, Pro plan with overages:

  • 4 sources, 4 users, 5 productions per month, 90 minutes each

  • Approximate usage: ~288 GB — 38 GB over the 250 GB included

  • Overage: 38 GB × $0.35 = $13.30 added to the monthly bill

Limits and Restrictions

  • Included usage resets monthly — even on yearly plans.

  • Local mode is always available — regardless of plan or usage status.

  • Overages billed monthly — regardless of monthly or yearly billing cycle.

  • Credit card required for paid plans and plans with potential overages.

  • One plan per Studio — subscriptions don't share between Studios.

  • Plan changes: upgrades immediate, downgrades at end of cycle.

  • No refunds for unused portions of a billing cycle, but you retain access until the cycle ends.

  • Billing system fail-safe — If billing information can't be loaded, Iris returns a default response so you can still access your Studio. You won't be locked out due to a billing system error.

What Happens If…

…you reach 75% of your included cloud usage? Warning notification appears. Cloud access continues normally.

…you hit 100% on a plan without overages (Free)? Cloud access is disabled. Devices switch to local-only mode. Upgrade or wait for the next billing cycle.

…you hit 100% on a plan with overages (Standard, Pro)? Cloud continues uninterrupted. Extra usage billed at your overage rate.

…you downgrade your plan? Current plan stays active until end of billing period. Banner shows the scheduled change date.

…you don't have permission to view billing? Access denied error. Only the Studio Owner or users with billing permissions can view or change billing.

…a billing system error occurs? The system fails gracefully. You can still access your Studio. Billing data may be temporarily unavailable.

…your payment fails? If your subscription becomes inactive and the billing period ends, the Studio reverts to the Free plan.
